Checklist for choosing the perfect live music for your big day

Wedding Music Cornwall
So you’ve decided your budget allows for live music at your wedding? Great news! It’s a fantastic way to create the type of atmosphere you desire and also make your day really memorable. Whether you’re looking for a string quarter or disco band, we at Launcells Barton have compiled a checklist to ensure it goes off without a hitch and ensure you get the perfect match!

1. The most important point is to be sure of your budget from the get go. You don’t want to find someone great and then come to realise that your budget doesn’t really allow. Ask yourselves, is it one of the most important aspects of your wedding or just a small addition? Also remember that quality music isn’t cheap. Hold off on the research until you know how much you are willing to spend!

2. You’ll need to sit down with your fiancé and discuss what type of music you would like. It’s helpful to think about both of your tastes and what type of atmosphere you’d like to create. Do you want it to be chilled and complimented by classical music or would you like something to get the party started and making everyone get up on their feet?

3. Its handy to have a rough run through of your day to see what times you would like live music to be played. Are you wanting to have music at the ceremony, during a reception or meal, or for an evening party? Maybe you’d like all of these, but do keep referring back to your budget!

4. Research is a very important part of the planning process. If there’s a band based at the opposite end of the country don’t be disheartened as they may be prepared to travel, but this will obviously be worked into the price. Obtain full quotes from your top choices with no hidden costs, and ask their availability to be certain they can make your date.

5. If you have managed to whittle it down and made your final choices, you now need to ask questions which are important to you. If there is a certain song you would like played, make sure that your band are happy to do this. You are paying for a service and therefore have the right to make certain requests, but make sure it’s nothing too outlandish! Also ensure that you obtain a full set list and check you are happy beforehand.

6. If at all possible, its beneficial to meet up with your band, rather than meeting them for the first time on the day. This of course might not be possible but if it is, do try to make the effort. It’s a good idea to put them in touch with your venue also, in case they have any technical or logistical questions.

7. Before the big day comes, do make sure you check with the band how long it will take them to set up and what this will involve, such as how much room they will need. It is common practice for set up to take place after the meal, when tables are being cleared and guests are at the bar getting drinks. Bear in mind some musicians could need an hour for this.

7 useful tips for writing your wedding vows

More and more people are deciding to write their own wedding vows in order to put into their own words how they feel about the one they love and to tell their friends and family how much that other person means to them. When it comes to the reality of actually writing them, things can get a little tricky; how do you put your emotions into words and your pen to paper? How do you encapsulate how you really feel?

For most of us this can be a daunting task, so if you’re currently writing your vows with a blank sheet of paper staring back at you, here are seven useful tips for making them all you want them to be from the team at our wedding venue in Cornwall.

Be authentic

The main and most important point is to be true to yourself – don’t try to be something you’re not. Your partner is marrying you, for you, and will want to feel that your words are genuine. It’s important to speak from your heart, they’re words you’ll remember forever.

Reflect on your relationship

Think about the reasons why you are marrying them and what has brought you to this moment. Look back on your favourite memories, your many ‘firsts’, and the moment you realised they were ‘the one’.

Buy a notepad

Writing isn’t something that comes naturally to many of us, so sitting down for a set period of time and forcing yourself to write vows under pressure (and potentially at the last minute) won’t make it enjoyable or what you want them to be, so try having a notepad on hand so that should an idea pop into your head, or some words, you’ll be able to write them down without any stress.

Google is your new best friend

The good news is that you’re not the first person to write your own vows and whilst you’ll not want to take someone else’s words, they can provide a great deal of inspiration. Head on a search to gain some ideas and always give Pinterest a visit; it’s an absolute goldmine when it comes to wedding ideas.

Practice makes perfect

Public speaking can fill some people with dread, so in order to avoid any fumbling or complete anxiety attacks, plenty of practice is vital. The more you practice the more natural and at ease you will be when the time comes to deliver your vows.

Share with someone who knows you both

It’s a good idea to do a run-through with a trusted friend who’ll be able to give you honest advice. It might be that they are able to add to your material, or tell you take something out if they feel you are perhaps oversharing with your audience!

Promises

Be honest with your partner. What can you promise them you’ll do throughout your marriage? Whether it’s to always buy their favourite coffee, to stand by them through thick and thin, or to stop singing along badly to the radio, make it something that means something to your both!

We wish you good luck with your vows and if you’d like to have a chat with us about having your big day at our wedding venue in Cornwall please do give us a call on 01288 352352.

What a fantastic Open Day, for our Wedding Venue in Cornwall….

Wow, what a day we had at our Open Day at the end of January! Despite the fact that it rained from dawn until dusk and I don’t know why I bothered doing my hair that morning! It was a huge success!

Barn Wedding Venue Cornwall

It was fantastic to welcome so many new couples to Launcells Barton, many of whom had travelled from all over the country, just to be at our Open Day!  It was also a great opportunity to catch up with couples that have already booked to have their wedding with us and hear all about how their plans are coming together.

Farm Wedding Venue Cornwall

The day also gave us a chance to introduce couples, both old and new, to some of the fantastic suppliers who we whole heartedly recommend for their day. We only recommend suppliers that we have worked with in the past.

We understand that planning a wedding can be very stressful- especially if you’re not from the area- and sitting staring at a laptop googling suppliers, can feel like a thankless task. You don’t get a trial run at your wedding, so you want the suppliers to be the very best and not be worrying about whether they will be as good as you had hoped!

Jenny, from Jenny Wren Wedding Planning was a fantastic support to us on the day and was on hand to meet and greet couples as they arrived and chat and offer advice about their plans for the big day! Couples were able to try one of our new cocktails and have a tasting of our house wine.

A big thank you to Oli McGivern, who travelled all the way from London to be at the event and captured these beautiful photos of the day!

Our Brand New Wedding & Events Reception Barn will open April 2017!

We are so pleased to be able to finally announce that our brand new reception barn will be opening it’s doors for the first time next April! Let us tell you a little more about our wedding venue in Cornwall.

Launcells Barton - Events Barn - Wedding Venues Bude, CornwallThe reception barn will be able to seat 200 guests comfortably and has a separate bar/ lounge, which can either be partitioned off or opened up. There will also be a kitchen for your caterers to use, reducing the need and cost to you for hiring in a catering tent and equipment.

We have worked really hard on the design of the New Events Barn and have designed it in such a way, that your guests can access the bar and reception lobby, without entering the main seating area, so that you keep the unveiling of your wedding breakfast a surprise, until everyone takes their seats! After all you have spent all that time making it look amazing, you don’t want people popping through to use the bathroom and seeing it!

We don’t want to lose the character of Launcells Barton in the new barn, which is why we are using where ever possible, re-claimed items from the farm. The partition for example, between the bar & the seating area will be reclaimed timber from the old barns & we even have an old maghonay organ which we are using as a drinks cabinet for the bar! The bar it’s self will even be made of all re-claimed wood too!

Although the main seating area will be very neutral, so that couples can decorate it however they wish, we will have a Launcells Barton feel in the bar/ Lounge. We will be including both the Georgian house & the barns into our new space, by combining English Country Gent with Rustic Farm, creating the perfect atmosphere to enjoy drinks and relax throughout your special day!

Follow the progress of our new barn and all the goings on at Launcells Barton by liking our Facebook page!

What an opening weekend for our wedding venue!

Wow, well what a weekend that was for us here at Launcells Barton!

We have been rushed off our feet and have only just got a chance to sit down after such a busy Open Weekend. The weekend was by appointment only, so that we could give each bride and groom the time they needed and we were fully booked throughout the 2 days!

Cornwall has so many creative and talented people and we were lucky enough to have a few of them showcasing at the weekend!Launcells Barton Peboryn

We had our very own Launcells Barton cake made by the incredible Christine at Peboryon. One of the distinctive features within the grounds of Launcells Barton is a beautiful fragrant pink rose known as the Launcells Rose. Apparently Matthew’s Grandfather had the rose looked into many years ago and it seems it’s unique to Launcells Barton. Every year it blooms and brings beautiful colour to the garden. Christine thought this was prettythumb_IMG_0024_1024 special -as do we- so took  this and worked it in to our very own cake!

Jenny from Jenny Wren Wedding planning was
also exhibiting at our open weekend and was an absolute star helping me get things ready the day before! She was there in all weathers moving and shifting things and even rolled up her selves and got stuck into ironing the Bridal Suite curtains, so that they looked perfect!

We were also able to show case our artist’s impressions by the Artographer and give our bride and grooms the first peak before anyone else! Here’s what the Bridal Suite will look like once all the furniture is in and the floors are buffed up!Bridal Suite 1

Ambience Venue Styling and Brompton Buds also dressed our Mill Barn and it looked absoloutley beautiful, even before all the works have been finished on the barn! It was great to show couples what they could do with the Mill barn if they wanted to!

Mill Barn

A big thank you to all of our suppliers who were able to be there at the event! We have worked with them all previously in the past, so were happy to recommend them to prospective couples!
