Weather proofing your wedding in Cornwall

On a regular day we can adjust our outfits, plans, and location to suit the weather, but when it comes to the day you’ve been planning for months, your wedding in Cornwall, some things can’t be changed.

The British weather is notoriously unpredictable, and even if you pick a date in the middle of the summer there’s always a chance you’ll get some rain on your wedding day. Luckily, there are some things you can do to weather-proof your wedding. We may not be able to change the weather, but we can ensure that you still have a fantastic day, come rain or shine.

Know your options

It is important to have a backup plan if you intend on having your ceremony outdoors. At Launcells Barton, we have three indoor venues. Because the entire site is yours for your wedding, there will be no problem in moving indoors. Keeping an eye on the forecast and staying in touch with your venue will allow them to make any necessary changes Launcells Barton - Wedding Venues Cornwallin advance. This will keep the morning of your wedding stress free, leaving you to relax and enjoy the day without having to think about us moving things around.

Photos don’t have to be outside

Whilst your heart may be set on photos in the grounds or in the walled garden, bad weather may stop this from being possible. Luckily, we have the exquisite manor house which can be used for photos. If you’re worried about the weather affecting your photos, have a chat with your photographer and come up with a plan of back up locations for your shoot.

Get glamorous with umbrellas

Umbrellas aren’t the most elegant things in the world, but sometimes they are a necessity. Invest in a few clear, large umbrellas for the bride and bridesmaids to ensure a dry arrival. After a morning of hair and make-up they won’t want it ruined by rain, particularly if it could have been prevented.
Don’t forget, umbrellas needn’t be dull like the weather, why not get creative and use them as accessories? Pick some pastel shades or throw in a selection of classy coloured parasols, not only do they look great in photos, they’ll brighten those gloomy skies!

Don your wellies!

Whether you’re travelling to Launcells Barton from near or far, Wellington boots go hand-in-hand with umbrellas, so embrace the weather and wear your pair of wellies with pride — Launcells Barton is a former dairy farm after all!

Create an ‘emergency’ kit

Wind, rain, and heat can all damage the bride’s beautiful hair and make-up. Ask your make-up artist and hairdresser for advice on what products and items you should keep at hand should the weather take a turn for the worse. Make sure your bridesmaids know where the kit is at all times should you need some help!

Stay hydrated

As well as rainy weather, we can occasionally have incredibly hot days. Mixing heat with excitement and alcohol can cause more problems than good, so make sure you have a large selection of soft drinks and water so you and your guests can stay hydrated throughout the day.

Don’t worry!

You can waste hours and hours worrying about whether the sun will be out on the big day, but all that really matters is that you’re marrying the person you love. No matter what the weather is like, you’ll still have a fun and memorable day. If it tips it down with rain laugh it off, you’ll probably still be laughing in years to come!
