Choosing which time of year to be married can be tricky. You may be torn between the idea of a celebration in the height of summer to make the most of the sunshine, or doing something totally different and going for an increasingly popular winter wedding. If you’re currently considering the date of your big day, here are just a few reasons to take advantage of some of our winter wedding availability.

The weather can be great!

Is there anything better than a crisp winter’s morning; piercing blue skies above, a hint of frost on the ground and a freshness in the air you simply don’t get at any other time of the year? If you’re lucky enough to have one of these mornings on your big day then you’re undoubtedly blessed, but the point we always make is that you never know what the weather will bring, no matter what time of year.

Winter doesn’t have to mean rain and even if it does, we’ve got the facilities to make sure you and your guests still have a day you’ll always remember.

Stunning photo locations and warm indoor areas

If you’ve not visited us at Launcells Barton yet our venue really does offer a flexibility that’s perfect for any couple, no matter when they’re looking to tie the knot. The countryside views surrounding our venue offer the perfect backdrop for photos at any time of the year, whilst our 16th Century manor house will give your bridal party the perfect place to stay and feel at home for the weekend.

It’s unlikely you’re going to want to wed outdoors at this time of year so we’ve made sure that our brand new, purpose-built reception barn and our lovingly converted Mill Barn are the perfect place for your guests to enjoy a warm winter ceremony and reception.

Each of the spaces come with their own bar, so how about Mulled wine to warm the cockles of your loved ones and guests? We’ve done this for a wedding in December before and it definitely went down well!

Exclusive use means a unique wedding

Having an exclusive use venue comes with a number of benefits, one of which is of course making the place your own. Making your day as special as it should be is at the heart of everything we do so we’ll never ask you to share it with anyone else.

This gives you the ultimate flexibility when it comes to decorations, personalisation and themes; a winter wedding is likely to look a little different to one in the height of the summer, so no matter what you’re thinking, have a chat with us and we’ll tell you how to bring your ideas to life once you start planning!

Hearty food

If you’re wanting to wed in the winter, then you have a unique opportunity to be a little different and daring with your food choices. The great news here is that our state of the art kitchen means that your caterers will undoubtedly be able to tickle your taste buds. We’ve been fortunate to work with some top notch culinary maestros, so we’re always happy to recommend some suppliers when it comes to helping you plan your big day.

If you’d like to talk to us about your wedding please give us a call on 01288 352352 or email us at hello@launcellsbarton.co.uk and we’ll be happy to chat about your big day.

You’ve picked the perfect venue, you’ve started whittling the guest list down and you’re all set to go with the best man and bridesmaids feverishly making plans for your hen and stag dos.

But how about the catering? Whether it’s braised beef, melting meringues or a trio of delicious desserts, selecting the right caterer can not only provide you with great food but also take a lot of stress from your proverbial plate.

Here are our top tips on how to get the right caterer for your wedding…

Deciding your budget

As with every other element of your wedding the catering is going to need a budget. When it comes to food this is usually calculated per head, so the first question you’re going to have to ask yourself is, how many heads are there going to be?

Also consider how many children will be attending your big day – these can often be priced differently and will need to be taken into account when it comes to selecting your options – a child’s palette can be very different to that of an adult!

If you’re inviting children we’re able to help out and ensure that tables are child-friendly, free from glass and ready for the little ones to enjoy!

Make sure there’s a clear understanding of what’s included and what you need

Be sure to get a clear understanding of what’s available at your venue when it comes to catering in order to avoid you having additional costs being added to your initial catering quote. Will they be providing staff, cutlery and plates? Some caterers will include this in their packages, whilst others may quote separately.

At Launcells we have a fitted kitchen for caterers to use in order to support them in delivering you with your dream food or meal. It also means they don’t need to pay out for a catering tent, equipment and gas or electricity – costs that would otherwise need to be passed on to you.

Sit down meal or more informal dining?

When you picture your wedding do you imagine sitting in a room with a carefully executed table plan, surrounded by friends and family enjoying their formal three course meal, or a more informal scene, guests mingling and popping out for a hog roast when they fancy?

Whatever you vision may be, you’ll need to find a caterer that’s in their element when it comes to the style of catering you’re after. Be sure to ask if they’ve catered for similar styles in the past, perhaps ask if they have references for those weddings and be sure to listen to any advice they give you as they’ll have undoubtedly learnt the best way to deliver your perfect plan!

Could you ask someone’s advice?

There’s no better recommendation than from someone you know and trust, or from experiencing it yourself! Have you recently been to a wedding where the food simply blew you away? Perhaps people you know could recommend the caterer they used?

Researching potential supplier websites is very different to seeing them in action and the final product on your plate, so definitely take onboard recommendations from those closest to you, as well as your own experiences.

We’ve worked with some great caterers at Launcells Barton – to give you a helping hand here are just a few you may like to contact: https://launcellsbarton.co.uk/recommended-suppliers/

Making sure your plans are right

Once you’ve found someone that fits your budget, knows what you want and is perfectly positioned and experienced to deliver it, you’ll want to check that what you’re wanting is doable and also going to work! Many caterers will offer tasting sessions – if yours does, then this is an opportunity well worth taking up, not just to taste some fantastic food but to ensure what you’re ordering is going to be enjoyable once out of your mind and onto the plate!

Your wedding venue is going to be an incredibly important part of your big day and will also play a huge role in many of the decisions you go on to make; from where the entertainment can be situated and set up, right through to the potential colour schemes you choose and the photographs that will capture each and every moment from the day.

It’s a decision you’ll spend plenty of time thinking about as a couple and one you’ll want to make sure you get right. We aim to make each wedding as special as possible and to help you plan and deliver the day you always wanted, so if you’re currently considering potential venues let us explain how we can make it happen for you…

Contacting us and making your initial visit

The search for a wedding venue often starts with a website, but how do you really know how things will work and what they’ll look like in real life? Once we’ve answered any initial questions you may have and sent you all of the information you’ll need to help you make your choice, many of our couples will come and view our venue to get a feel for the place, to understand how it will work for them and to ensure it’s the perfect fit.

Every wedding is different and unique; we know this and we understand this, so as we walk around our venue we’ll try to give you as many ideas for the day as we can, using our experience of what has worked particularly well for some of our previous brides and grooms.

Saying ‘I do’ to Launcells Barton

The perfect place and the perfect date is what every bride hopes for, so if you’ve decided that Launcells Barton hits the mark for both of those, we’ll hold your date for seven days in order to allow you to sign all of the paperwork and make a deposit, after which your date is then secured.

The first of many exciting moments to come!

Once all of those formalities are done and dusted it really is full steam ahead with planning!

Re-visiting Launcells Barton

We know there’s a lot to think about on your first visit and you may want to show off the venue to some of your close family in advance, or re-visit us in order to work out the practicalities of some of the elements of your day with us or other suppliers. We can welcome couples back to our venue twice before their big day, which is usually enough to ensure that your day is perfectly planned and your mind is at rest.

Planning your big day

Communication is key when planning such a special occasion, so we’ve honed and tweaked our processes to ensure we help you as much as possible. The first element of this is our wedding coordination form, which we’ll send out as soon as you’ve confirmed your date.

For some couples this has proven to be a real god-send, as it lays out everything you need to be thinking about and organising throughout the day – the timings, who’s doing what, the suppliers you need to get in contact with; it really does give a real focus and a tick list of things that need to be completed.

A handy info guide!

Sometimes when you’re planning a wedding it’s when it gets to bedtime that you start to think about a million and one things you should or need to be doing. To make sure you’re never caught short we’ve created a handy info guide for our brides, so that all of your questions – whether it be the size of the tables or anything else at our venue – are answered with the information you need no matter what time of the day.

Support when you need it

From the moment you visit to the end of your wedding day, we really are here to do as much as we can to make it the day you’d always hoped for, and to hopefully take the stress off of your shoulders so you can enjoy the occasion from start to finish.

Here’s some feedback from just a few of our happy couples for you to have a read through: https://launcellsbarton.co.uk/testimonials/

A key part of any wedding will be for you to spend and share it with the people you love and those closest to you. For many it’s also about family, and those family members can sometimes be of all ages – whether it’s elderly grandparents or that adorable pageboy that steals the show.

We’ve had plenty of experience in welcoming wedding parties of all sizes, and ages, to Launcells Barton, so here are our tips on how to have a brilliant day where the kids can play and enjoy it with you.

Involve them in the ceremony

People love to be involved and children are no different, so if you tell them they have a very important task, whether it’s to be a flower girl or a ring bearer during the ceremony, it’s likely they will not only treasure the responsibility, but also be on their best behavior when all eyes are on them!

They’ll also make for some very cute photos you can cherish and pull out at family get-togethers for many years to come, much to their dismay!

Check if you can have a child’s menu

It’s a good idea to ask your caterers if they’re able to offer any child specific options. Younger family members will understandably have different tastes, so if you are opting for a sit down meal try to provide the parents with a couple of options to choose from. If you’re having a buffet, make sure there are a good mix of dishes, with some suitable for children which aren’t too rich or spicy.

Also consider those times outside of the set meal and canapes – are you going to provide kids with snacks to ensure they don’t get too low on energy, whilst of course not plying them with too much sugar? Some caterers will provide little lunch packs for the kids to have during the welcome drinks so they don’t get too hungry, meaning the adult can eat without worrying about them during the meal.

Be mindful when drawing up your seating plan

Seating plans take careful consideration and can be tricky to get right, so if you’re bringing the kids you’re likely to have a few extra things to think about. Depending on their age, you could let them have their own table; this can reduce boredom and increase the fun they have – you just need to make sure they’re of an age to be trusted with this responsibility. If the children are younger and need to be with their parents make sure you check with the venue that they will be able to provide highchairs and it won’t feel cramped.

Make it fun!

Keeping the kids entertained throughout the day can sometimes be a tricky task, especially when toddlers can easily start to get hungry, bored or sleepy. In the past we have had people set up little tipis with cushions and colouring books for the children, making it into their own little den!

If you’re holding your wedding during the warmer months, lawn games have become very popular and are fun for young and old, as well as being quick and easy to set up. There are also a huge range of wedding games and entertainment you could explore; we can point you in the direction of some of the best we’ve worked with previously. Before now we have had couples hire bouncy castles and even crazy golf –which always goes down well!

Make your DJ aware

It’s sensible to let your DJ know there will be children bopping about during the evening. He may remove some songs from his playlist which wouldn’t be suitable and will hopefully add in a few crowd pleasers which children will love getting up and dancing to!

Work together with your venue

Lastly, but perhaps most importantly, work together with your venue. Their aim is to make your day special and stress-free, and if you let them know there’ll be children attending in advance, it could be that they have a few tricks and ideas up their sleeve to make it as enjoyable for everyone, no matter what their age.

If you’re currently planning your wedding day then deciding on who you’re going to invite can be a tricky, and sometimes political task. You want to avoid upsetting anyone, yet it’s your big day so you’ll want to make sure you can share it with those people that mean a lot to you, whether it’s your friends, family or other loved-ones.

Here are a few helpful tips to ensure you get everyone you love to be there on your big day…

Decisions on Family

Whilst you’ll of course want to share your special day with immediate family, the question of where to draw the line can sometimes be a difficult one to answer. Do you extend it past your aunties or cousins to those family members you’ve not seen in several years, or do you keep it to those closest to you?

The best rule here is to be consistent so as to avoid any offence; if you’re going all out then include them all, and if you’re wanting a smaller and more intimate day, perhaps draw the line a little closer to home, but always have the same rules for everyone and bear in mind the idiosyncrasies that each of our families have!

Who’s partner will be coming?

The question of including partners has been thrust into the spotlight in recent times with Pippa Middleton coining the phrase ‘no ring, no bring’ at her recent wedding. So where are you going to stand on partners at your wedding?

Whilst it’s going to be a no-brainer your family are going to bring their wives and girlfriends, it can become somewhat of a grey area when it comes to your friend and their brand-new boyfriend you’re yet to meet or speak to. Be sure to be clear and consistent on your approach, as well as on your invite, to avoid any confusion or upset.

Could geography be a hurdle?

Whether you decide to hold your wedding at your local church, or on the other side of the world, there is going to be some element of travel required for your guests. Before now, we have had a bride and groom fly all the way from Australia to hold their special day here at Launcells. They were slightly nervous in choosing native England as their wedding destination, in case certain friends or family wouldn’t make the trip.

In reality, those who really count will of course make the effort for you both. Whether you’re celebrating close to home or not, send out those save the dates and if a friend declines due to distance then they have freed up an invite which could go to someone who wouldn’t miss it for the world!

Are they a co-worker or a friend?

Many of us will have had this dilemma with our own wedding; you spend a lot of time with them, but do you invite your co-workers to your big day? It can sometimes feel as if it will be awkward if we don’t, or as if there’s an obligation to send an invite, when in reality that pressure often isn’t actually there.

If they’re not close to you in the office, the likelihood is that they’re not expecting an automatic invite and are also hopefully unlikely to take offence. Invite those that mean the most to you, and those with whom you share life outside of the office walls, or if you feel they’re just co-workers, then keep consistent and tell them all about it on your return from work!

Can you imagine your big day without them?

The final point is probably the most important one of them all; can you imagine your big day without them? Are they someone who you’ve shared some of your fondest memories with? Would it seem like someone is missing if you didn’t invite them? If the answer to those questions is yes, then you know that they need to be there on your special day.

If you’re currently looking for a unique and special wedding venue in Cornwall then please give us a call on 01288 352352 and we’d be happy to discuss how we can help.
