Back in April the sun shone and we saw the gorgeous Spring wedding of Hannah & Jak! With close friends and family travelling down to enjoy the weekend with them, Hannah and Jak partied the night away surrounded by loved ones!

It hasn’t been an easy ride for these two, pandemic aside after just meeting, Jak became seriously ill and Hannah was by his side every step of the way as Jak was forced to learn to walk again. Their struggles only served to make them stronger and as you can imagine, every single person at their wedding was so elated to be able to celebrate how far they’ve come and raise a glass to the happy couple! For us, we could feel that emotion in the room and we couldn’t help but share a tear and celebrate in their joy!

Hannah, Jak and all their friends and family travelled down from Surrey to celebrate in the Cornish Countryside. They arrived the day before to set up the Reception and Ceremony spaces, before heading off to a near by wine bar, to have a glass or two the night before as their guests arrived in Cornwall.

Bleujen provided the perfect styling with green and white flowers on the tables and greenery loosely hung from the beams, while their personalised candles by Beeta Taylor-Sadeghi with remembered family and friends names handwritten on each candle, finished the table styling perfectly.

On the morning of their wedding Hannah and her Bridesmaids got ready in the Manor house and the fizz started to flow while their hair and make up artist got to work!

 

Hannah looked absolutely stunning in a high neck minimalist dress with a custom cut out back, her cathedral length veil with added pearls epitomized sophisticated simplicity.

As the ladies finished getting ready in the house, Jak and his Groomsman arrived, shortly before their guests arrived and headed to the Snug Bar for a pre-ceremony drink.

After Jak took his place at the top of the aisle in the Mill Barn and waited with anticipation, we welcomed guests to take their seats for the ceremony, before Hannah & her Bridal party made their way over from the house.

After their joyous ceremony, guests made their way outside into the Courtyard for canapés, welcome drinks and acoustic music! The happy couple chose Dish to cater their wedding and guests enjoyed a Sushi station alongside canapés.

As guests took their seats in the Reception Barn for the Wedding Breakfast, Hannah & Jak took a bit of time for themselves and explored the grounds.  

The Launcells team then announced the Newly Weds into their Wedding Breakfast, where they enjoyed a feast of grazing boards and slow cooked shoulder of Lamb by Dish, before heading outside for Canapés style desserts outside after speeches!

After the LB team turned the Reception barn around, we welcomed guests for their first dance and cutting of the cake!

As guests partied and their DJ kicked off the night, Hannah and Jak went for a wander during Golden Hour to take in the day and watch the sun setting on their wedding, before joining their guests for one hell of a party into the night!

The feelings of warmth, love, history and beauty we got whilst walking around the venue, we just knew this was where we were going to getting married. It was beyond perfect in every sense and everything we had been searching for in one.

The whole lead up to the wedding was faultless; Maddie and Lara kept the whole process in perfect order and we had absolute full trust in them and their experience – for us it was all pretty simple and stress free! From start to finish, our wedding day was just the most fun ever- we had no stress, no worries; Lara, Maddie and the team just took complete control which allowed us to just enjoy every single moment and we are so incredibly grateful for that!

Thank you so much for the most amazing day, there is absolutely nothing we would change,  it was complete perfection. Launcells Barton will forever have the most special place in our hearts. “

We often get asked, what’s the difference between a venue’s wedding co-ordinator and a wedding planner, so we thought we would answer your questions and offer some clarity!

A Venue’s Wedding Co-ordinator does pretty much what it says on the tin. They’re there to help with all aspects of the running of the day and answer any questions about the venue that you may have. From when the best time to throw the confetti might be, to ceremony “all weather” plans, to how long your welcome drinks reception should be, they’re there to help the day run smoothly and ensure nothing is missed or forgotten.

What’s the difference when it comes to suppliers in the run up to the wedding? 

As a venue we have some amazing suppliers that we can recommend that we have worked with many times before and can offer some great suggestions on who might be available or suit your style and budget most, but a wedding planner is there to actually go out and source and organise all of this for you. They will directly contact your suppliers, check availability and liaise with all the contracts, timings etc throughout your wedding planning. They might even attend your wedding dress fittings, or hair trials and are on hand 24/7 for any wedding related worries or questions you may have.

What’s the difference the day before? 

When you arrive at the venue the day before your wedding, the venue team will have set up all your tables, chairs and ceremony furniture and are on hand all day for any questions or queries you may have. Your florist, lighting or styling company will then come in and set up to ensure everything is looking beautiful! Or if you and your team of merry helpers who would rather get stuck in, you can decorate and style yourselves. Depending on what you have discussed with your caterer, they will either come in the day before or the day of, to lay up the crockery, cutlery etc on the tables and the bar team will take care of all the glassware.  A Wedding Planner, who will sometimes also be your wedding stylist, will take care of all this for you, so you can lay back and watch the beauty unfold!  From table place names to seating plans, they will take care of everything!

Transport and accommodation

Being so close to Bude we have an abundance of accommodation on our doorstep and although we have a few places we recommend on our website, how you get here and where your guests stay, is in the hands of the couple and their guests. Most couples find a simple list of local accommodation and a nod towards booking.com or airbnb and guests are well away with finding the perfect place to stay for a couple of days. We can also recommend some great mini bus companies and have a list of local taxi companies for guests to use! But, word to the wise, we don’t have Uber in Cornwall, so your guests do need to call in advance to arrange for a taxi to take them home.

A wedding planner would organise all this for you; booking hotel rooms, organising transport, timings of pick up and drop off’s, they have all this taken care off.

What about on the day?

On the day a venue wedding co-ordinator is there to liaise with all your suppliers ensuring everyone is where they need to be and everyone is on the same page with timings. They make announcements if needed, direct guests and make sure the Bride and her bridal party are at the ceremony on time and the dress is looking immaculate as they walk down the aisle. On the actual day itself there isn’t a huge amount of difference between a venue wedding co-ordinator and wedding planner.  A planner will get more involved in personal aspects and may, for example, lay out reserved seating for guests, or be on hand to button up the dress, but both planner and co-ordinator’s sole focus on the day is to ensure everything runs smoothly and the couple have the best day! Running last minute button holes to family members and ensuring the acoustic singer has power to set up; it’s all part of what we do and we make sure we take care of everything so the couple and their guests can enjoy every moment!

So you’ve heard all about what a wedding planner and venue co-ordinator do and hopefully that’s given you a bit of an insight into what’s right for you and your wedding, but there are things that you can do to help make things as stress free as possible, without needing the added help of a wedding planner. Here’s our advice to helping you feel as relaxed as possible as you plan your day!

Communication– Communication is the absolute key to ensuring your day runs as smoothly as possible, if we don’t know about something, we can’t help. The last thing anyone want’s is a surprise on the day, so if you’re having sparklers, or you’re having a band playing for your welcome drinks, or you have a nephew that can be a bit of a handful just let us know, that way we will have a space ready for your singer when they turn up, sparklers at the ready when your photographer is ready to go and suggest a space that you can set up a “kiddies area” to ensure everyone is happy!

Budget– It sounds simple enough doesn’t it! Work out what everything is going to cost and go from there, but you really do need to do your homework on budget to ensure things are as stress free as possible and there are no surprises along the way. There will always be last minute things you haven’t accounted for, but by working out your budget at the beginning and checking in with it along the way, it helps you work out your guest numbers, menu choices and what drinks packages you want to go for.

Research– Do as much research as you possibly can, find the suppliers that you most click with and understand what it is you want for you day. Having confidence in your suppliers will take away 99% of the stress!

Check and double check– We do our best to put as much information together for you as possible, when you book with us we send across a co-ordination form and Handy Info guide, which has everything that we need from you to co-ordinate your day smoothly and any FAQ’s that you might have along the way! So when you’re up at 10pm trying to work out the seating plan you can refer to your Handy Info Guide straight away and see table sizes and barn sizes etc!

Planning a wedding during a global pandemic isn’t fun and is incredibly stressful, but when so much is taken out of your control, the only thing you can do is roll with it…and that’s exactly what Lauren and Stuart did!  They were a dream to work with, always understanding and with a positive out look on things, besides, it meant they had not one, but two wedding days!!

“From 21 March 2020 up until the end of July 2020 we were in limbo. We had no idea if the wedding would go ahead” “It’s just the unknown that’s so hard to contend with. When it got to five weeks before the wedding date we decided with Lara that not much was going to change and we should postpone it to 2021.”

“However, after telling all our guests it turned out that our parents, siblings and closest family were still planning on going to Cornwall for a holiday as they had the accommodation booked, as were we, so we decided to just get married anyway.” “We contacted Lara and organised our ceremony on the original date with just 25 guests”

Their ceremony on their original date in 2020, was just beautiful, I’m not ashamed to admit that I stood at the back of their ceremony and cried! Not only was it the first ceremony that we had held in over 9 months, but seeing two people who had moved heaven and earth to say their vows and make it official, was amazing to see! I can’t tell you how lovely Lauren and Stuart were throughout the whole process too! They knew how hard things were for us on this side, with the on going postponements and lack of information and support from the Government, but their kindness and understanding meant the world! I even came into the office one day to find a hamper that they had sent full of treats!  So when they finally said “I do” we popped the fizz and celebrated with them before they headed off for photos with their family!

Sooooo, roll on 2021 and it was time for the for the main celebration and their big day with all their friends and family and this time, there were no restrictions! Woohooo!!

As Lauren & Stu were already legally married, when it came to their 2021 day, they ripped up the rule book and did everything their way! Both Bride and Groom stayed in the house the night before and the Bride did a “First Look” reveal, before they both walked down the Aisle together! It was just perfectly them!

Brompton Buds decorated the Mill Barn with a simple greenery arch and dried pampas grass at the top of the aisle. The Cornish Celebrants conducted their ceremony and included so many special and personal touches. In that room you could feel just how much this moment meant to everyone there.

As everyone made their way outside after the ceremony, the sun finally made it’s appearance  and guests enjoyed canapés, Pimms, beers and acoustic music after they showered the happy couple with confetti!

As guests took their seats for the meal, Lauren and Stu went off for some photos together…..

..and after the more traditional ones, they decided to shake things up with some smoke bombs and what followed was one of the funniest moments of last year! After finally working out how to open the flares, the wind decided to take over and cause a bit of chaos, so we decided to change tack and co-coordinator Maddie and I set them off around the couple…only as we opened the flares and ran away, I burnt my hand and some of my hair in the process! We all wet ourselves laughing at just how ridiculous we all looked and the result…some very real photos and some amazing memories!! 

The Reception Barn had been decorated the day before and Lauren (I would say and Stu as well, but he said it was all Lauren!) had thought of everything! There were also a couple of last min changes with the decor, but after the past couple of years with plans changing, it was all sorted without stress. The two huge peacock chairs they had hired were a lot bigger than they had planned, so they had a table of two instead of a top table and were able to watch out over all their guests enjoying the meal just the two of them!

Once the happy couple were announced in, they both gave a speech, before Beautiful and the Feast served up a fantastic…feast!

As we turned the room around so their DJ could set up, guests milled outside and in the bar, as Lauren and Stu, took a stroll around the grounds.

Once the happy couple had cut their … doughnuts! Yes doughnuts! They hit the dance floor for their first dance! The choreographed danced didn’t quite go to plan, but that didn’t stop Stuart helping Lauren back up and finishing with a bang!! Lauren and Stuart embodied the idea of not taking yourself too seriously. As Chumbawamba once said “You get knocked down, but you get up again!”

As the confetti canons went off, everyone joined the couple and partied the night away!!

A few words from our happy Couple– We aren’t from Cornwall, but have loved it for a long time and knew as soon as we got engaged that we wanted to marry there. We live a 6 hour drive away in Essex so when we came to look at Wedding venues we saw 10 in a week. Some we had really high hopes for and others, including Launcells, were ones that we had seen online and though we may as well check out whilst down there.

Launcells looked lovely online and we were excited to go visit but it wasn’t on our definitely list (for some strange reason) – but when we got there it just won us over. The pictures, as beautiful as they are, just don’t do it justice. We can’t quite put our finger on it, but Launcells is just magic, it had our hearts from our first visit. We got back in the car afterwards and both said – WOW – that was incredible. For the rest of our trip, going to the venues we had our hearts set on just didn’t measure up, we found ourselves comparing every other venue to Launcells.

The atmosphere is warm and homely whilst also being luxurious and honestly just everything you could ever want from a Wedding venue. Everyone we dealt with were just SO kind and helpful, during what was an awful time for everyone.

The day we actually got married in 2020 with just a few family and friends was so wonderful, we hired the venue for just 2 hours so that we could have the ceremony and some bubbles & photos afterwards and somehow in that very short window of time Lara made it so special for us. There was no décor, no flowers, no ‘fluff’ but we realised you don’t need it in such a gorgeous setting. After that we were just super excited to have our ‘Big’ day there the following year with the rest of our family and friends. And when we finally got to experience Launcells how Lara & Matt intended it, it was just amazing. All the little touches in the house made such a difference and brought it up to another level entirely.

We all know that many many hours of planning go into a wedding, but exactly how many people and how many hours go into that big day? 

After hosting over 120 weddings here, we see first hand the amount of people running around behind the scenes to bring a wedding day together. It’s the hustle and bustle, all the last minute changes and the sheer determination and love of weddings that means you’ll often see suppliers up ladders, working all hours of the night, drenched from the rain, covered in mud, juggling a crying child while editing photos, lugging furniture back and forth, helping a guest who’s celebrated a little too much or even down at the harbour collecting their own seafood in the early hours of the morning- just to make sure a couples dreams come true and it’s a job well done! 

We’ve spoken to suppliers across the whole day and we’re looking at exactly how much time and manpower (person power) goes into each and every day. I have to say, I knew it was a lot, but this has come as a shock to everyone!  No wonder we all need to double up on the concealer after a wedding season! 

We will start with the venue as it’s the bit that we know most about… It’s also worth baring in mind that all the stats and figures shown are based on pre-coivd.  We all know how many extra hours of admin went in to postponements and changes!

And so, the total amount of supplier hours that go into a wedding are…..674 to 746 hours!! and 37- 48 people! That’s crazy! Wow! That’s 19 working weeks!! That’s almost 5 months of solid working hours for one amazing day!

What’s also interesting is that only 206 hours are on the day itself, 468-539 hours are in prep, correspondence, meetings, admin & set up! No wonder we all feel like we know our couples so well when we finally get to see the big day!

 I love the wedding industry and I love the people in it and, although most of the time we only get to see each other in passing on a wedding day, seeing these amazingly creative people bringing their talent and expertise to the day and seeing just how happy couples are at the end of it all, makes me incredibly proud of everything we achieve each and every week!

In July 2021, the Sun came out and the heat hit us all and there wasn’t a cloud in the sky for Bethany and Sam’s beautiful Summer Wedding.

Bethany and Sam live in Liverpool and planned their wedding with us, not only by taking full advantage of our amazing recommended supplier list, so they knew they were in the best hands for their special day, but by enjoying some long weekends in Cornwall, where they teamed up seeing their suppliers with visiting the venue and then planing all the finer details from back home. It was perfect for them as they had a fantastic excuse for a few weekends away together and gave all their friends and family a lovely break in Cornwall to celebrate with them on the big day!

Bethany and Sam created a simple elegance for their day with an abundance of greenery, candles, simple white flowers & touches of pampas grass throughout, which was all styled beautifully by Bleujen.

As the Bridal party got ready in the Manor house, the guests started to arrive and take their seats in the Mill Barn.

As Bethany and her Bridal party made their way over, Sam waited nervously in the Mill Barn. The Groom wore black tie and the pair looked effortlessly glamorous.Guests followed the newlyweds outside and made their way into the walled garden, where the Launcells Barton team organised guests for confetti, or in Bethany and Sam’s case leaves!

Guests then made their way under the trees to find some shade from the sun and help themselves to a much needed drink.  As Blue Lion Band played an acoustic set, pickled shack mingled serving canapés.

As guests enjoyed Pimms & Fizz, before being asked to find their seats in the Reception Barn, Bethany and Sam snuck off for some photos at the front of the house.

After Bethany and Sam were announced in as Newlyweds, their caterers Pickle Shack served a delicious 3 course meal, of pork belly followed by lemon tart. Speeches got underway shortly afterwards before guests milled outside, enjoying the last of the days sun.  As the Launcells Barton team turned the space around, their band set up for the evening!

Guests were welcome inside for the couples first dance, and I think it’s safe to say, that guests took full advantage of the fact that all restrictions on weddings had finally been lifted and they could once again dance on the dance floor!!!

While some guests partied in the Reception Barn and some mingled outside watching the sun go down, Bethany and Sam quickly jumped on the Tractor, for a trip to catch the sunset across the farm and Cornish coast. What a way to watch the sun go down on your special day!farm wedding venue cornwall

Once back, the newlyweds partied the night away with their guests, stopping only briefly for a romantic sparkler tunnel outside the barn.

A few words from the BrideOur wedding was absolutely everything we imagined and more, as we live in Liverpool and had our friends and family travel down to Cornwall everyone was able to have a mini holiday and bask in the beautiful sunshine and surroundings at launcells Barton! Being able to spend the night before at the Manor House with my bridesmaids, flower girls and mum was absolutely magical! Throughout the night we all had to pinch ourselves on how beautiful it was, waking up together with the Prosecco following whilst getting ready was just perfect and will be the happiest morning of my life!

Everything at launcells was amazing- one of the highlights for me and sam was being able to sneak off on the tractor and not only get some amazing pictures but grab some time just the two of us! We really wanted everyone including our flower girls and page boys to have the best day and the surroundings / grounds at launcells meant everyone could spill out on to the fields and enjoy themselves!”

Back in July, as the world was starting to see some kind of normality and emerge from the dark tunnel of lockdowns and ridiculous restrictions, yes we mean the one where you can stand up in a Garden with your friends and family, but put a drink in your hand and you must sit down -nope we didn’t get it either- and we were finally able to host “normal” weddings again!

Wedding Cornwall

One of our first weddings of the Summer was Alisha and Ricky and what a wedding it was! Alisha and Ricky were originally supposed to marry in August last year, but for obvious reasons, it was moved to July this year, however this year it wasn’t just the 2 of them standing at the end of the Aisle, as Alisha was carrying their soon to be new addition to the family! We were so happy and excited for them when they told us the news!

Not only was their wedding one of our first weddings since 2019, but it was also Maddie’s first solo wedding here at Launcells Barton! She was rather thrown in at the deep end, as Matt and I unfortunately caught Covid, meaning we had to isolate and couldn’t run their wedding! I was absolutely devastated not to be able to be there, but knew Maddie would be amazing, so while Matt and I were living off our left over wedding cake, as we couldn’t get any food deliveries, Maddie picked everything up and ran with it! How amazing it was to hear the incredible feedback, from suppliers, guests and of course Ricky & Alisha on how well Maddie did! Proud boss moment right there!

Ricky and Alsiha’s day was filled with colour and laughter! They weaved the most gorgeous blues, pinks and peaches throughout the styling of their day and it looked beautiful!

The day started with the guys heading off to the beach for a quick dip in the sea, which is only a 5 minute drive away in Bude.

Meanwhile the ladies all got ready in the Bridal Suite, before guests started arriving and heading to the Snug bar for a pre-ceremony drink!

After drying off and getting himself smartened up, Ricky arrived to welcome everyone before it was time to take their seats and wait for the arrival of the Bride!Wedding Venue Cornwall Alisha looked utterly gorgeous in a simple statement ballgown, I don’t know if it was the excitement of finally getting married or the pregnancy, but everyone said she was absolutely glowing! Just look at her smile as she walked down the aisle as her band played!

After the ceremony guests made their way outside for drinks, photos and confetti! There had been showers coming and going all morning, so at the last minute the ceremony was brought inside, with the weather being a tad unpredictable, we decided it was best to set the drinks up in the den opposite the snug bar and then whatever the weather, guests could find shelter if the heavens did open again! Thankfully they didn’t, and the afternoon turned out to be beautiful!

As Ricky and Alsiha went for a walk and some time with their photographer, their guests took their seats in the Reception Barn, before they were announced in as the new Mr & Mrs!

After Beautiful and the Feast had served their meal and guests had had a breather outside, it was time for speeches! Wedding Venue Cornwall

After speeches as we turned the venue around and their band set up, guests were able to go outside and enjoy the last of the day’s sun.

As the sun set, guests were welcomed inside for Ricky and Alisha to cut their cake before their band kicked off the evening with their first dance as Man and Wife!

A few words from the beautiful Bride herself… “Everything happens for a reason’ is a stance I truly believe in and live by, and no more so than having your wedding postponed during a pandemic – a situation thousands of us had to sadly experience during 2020. Both couples and suppliers truly suffered emotionally and financially, however when you work together as a team and fill this undeniably difficult process with understanding from both sides of the equation, then it only leads to amazing things in the future. It definitely did for us, and Lara ensured that the process to move to a 2021 date that suited us both was smooth. And so, the new countdown to the #WedWed 2021 – as our wedding was now on a Wednesday – began. 

So how did two Brummies end up in Cornwall? Our original plan was Portugal as that is where my mum’s family come from, this was proving to be tricky but we wanted the beach and holiday feel. It couldn’t have fallen better, with our guests making their way down to beautiful Bude for a week with a wedding in the middle of their holiday! It meant we had pre-parties, after-parties and actually spent quality time with our friends and family.

I will never forget that crisp Autumnal day in October 2018 driving up the winding roads to Launcells – the first and only venue we looked at. It was breath taking and immediately we fell in love with everything about it. Meeting Lara sealed the deal for us – she was funny, kind, knowledgeable and understanding. She made us feel totally relaxed and we could envisage our wedding taking place at this extraordinary venue. The exclusivity of it was also a huge selling point to us – being able to really make it our home over the 2-3 days and having our wedding party stay with us in the most magnificent period house.

Those 3 days in July 2021 at Launcells Barton were the best days of my life so far and we do have to thank newest Launcells member on the block, Maddie, for being so diligent, calm and collected and helping to make some quick decisions based on the slightly temperamental weather. We feel very honoured to be Maddie’s first solo wedding, and she really did an outstanding job. Thank you!

We made a lastminute decision to have our ceremony in the barn rather than outdoors in the garden – Maddie didn’t skip a beat to turn it around for us and to the sweet sound of My Girl sung & played by our phenomenal band The Distractions, we began married life.

Every part of our day played out better than expected – and this was smoothly executed by Maddie & the Launcells team working during the wedding. They were professional, good humoured and had a smile on their face all day. All of our guests commented on how brilliant every single person working was – and how especially accommodating they were at supplying the drinks well into the evening! I was 5 months pregnant at the time, and the team were attentive and thoughtful in their approach. I was never left with an empty glass of elderflower, or a Cornish pasty in hand!

Lara and then Maddie, were on board with our vision from the very beginning – relaxed day time vibes, good humour, personal touches and a lively party. We hope that they loved the day just as much as we did! We can’t thank them enough for all their organisation, love and support since that first meeting in 2018. We cannot recommend Lara, Matt, Maddie & the team highly enough. All of our suppliers were equally as magnificent in bringing our vision together. Thank you!”

Top tip for couples: Enjoy the time planning together as a team. Make sure that you have personal touches of who you are as a couple. Work with your suppliers, not against them. 

It was an absolute pleasure getting to know you both over the last 3 years, we are all so glad that you finally got to have your day and celebrate with all your loved ones around you! We wish you and your new addition nothing but happiness as you step into the next chapter of your lives as parents! As I write this now, you could already have your new bundle in your arms! If you don’t, get as much sleep as you can now and then invest in as much concealer as you can carry! I hope you enjoy re-living your day in your feature, as much as we loved being a part of it! Huge Congratulations again!!

Each year we’re lucky to work with couples from Cornwall, across the country and even further afield to make their dream wedding day a reality.  Some of them have a clear idea of the day they’ve always wanted, while others will ask us for a little advice on what’s worked well in the past and what perhaps might be more stress than it’s worth!

With so many decisions to make, it’s those little ideas that turn into mountainous amounts of work that we’re going to discuss today.  Here are just a few top tips on how to make the planning of your wedding run as smoothly as possible!

Catering

The good news is that each of the five caterers we work with at Launcells Barton are fantastic! They’ve all catered weddings here and people are often in awe of some of the quality of food they get to tuck in to! For most people, putting a menu together for more than 100 people isn’t something you do in your daily life!

So don’t feel like you’ve got to go to them with a fully-fledged Michelin standard menu that you’ve concocted yourselves! That’s a lot of pressure! Just let them know what you like and what you don’t; they’ll have the experience to tell you whether something is a good idea or not. This can include the practicalities of certain meals, how and when they’re served and what timings you’ll need to run to!

Floristry

Just like catering, the majority of us won’t be experts when it comes to what flowers are going to be perfect and seasonal at specific times of the year. With this in mind, ask our amazing florists what they think; tell them your colour scheme and (just like your food preferences) what you do and don’t like, so they can guide you from there.

The reason we offer our couples specific drinks packages is because we know that this can be an area for potential stress.  Considering a venue where you bring your own? We’ve found that things like corkage, last minute cruises to France for a wine that’s not quite what you hoped it would be, working out who’s going to do the serving and confusion over who’s bringing what can not only lead to stress in the days leading up to your wedding, but also on the big day itself.  Definitely not what you want!

We might not be a big team, but every single person here has a key role to play in making sure that your day runs smoothly and the place is looking perfect when you check in! As a family run wedding venue, we only take on a certain amount of weddings per year so we can make sure that every day runs professionally and so we can give couples the care and attention they need in the run up to their big day! We specialise in weddings at Launcells Barton and we know what we do works well for our couples and, because we don’t offer holiday accommodation or anything like that, our sole focus and attention is on our couples and making sure everything is ready and set up come your wedding day!

 

Ken & Julian – Maintenance Team

Ken & Julian work on our Maintenance side of things. We are still a working organic farm with over 230 acres to care for, so when Ken and Julian aren’t maintaining and fixing bits around the venue, cutting the many lawns and making sure everything looks perfect when a couple checks in, they are also looking after the fields and woodland across the farm. Out of wedding season there is plenty of maintenance to do as we refresh the whole house, venue and barns, ready to welcome in a new season! We also run a biomass heating system across the venue, so there is also a lot of work to be done harvesting timber from our sustainably managed woodland ready for the following winter!

 

Claire- Admin & Accounts

Claire looks after our Admin & Accounts, making sure all the numbers and many spreadsheets are in order. You may also see Claire on a wedding day working on the bar side of things, as she has extensive experience in managing hotels and bars. She is fantastic at making sure that guests know where they are going when they first arrive and that drinks are being prepared ready for welcome drinks, she’s a welcoming face making sure guests are happy.  So, if you or your guests have any questions while I’m with the Bridal party or helping a Groom with his buttonhole, Claire’s your gal! Claire works with us part time during the week, as she is also a busy mum of 4 boys!

 

Ellie- Housekeeping

Ellie is our House keeper and her attention to detail and pride in her work means we never have to worry about anything being out of place! Ellie looks after the house and both barns, turning everything around after a wedding! From changing beds & cleaning the house top to bottom, to making sure that every inch of the barns have been hoovered, mopped and dusted, along with giving the caterers kitchen a thorough once over ready for your caterers to arrive and set up for your wedding. She has an eye for all the details and triple checks all the smaller, but very important things through to the much needed tea and coffee in the house, before she is happy for a couple to check in.  Ellie works throughout the week, juggling everything around her 3 children.

 

Bar Team

Our experienced seasonal bar team, some of whom have been with us for many years, are there on your wedding day to make sure everything  runs smoothly and, most importantly, the drinks keep flowing! The team will normally arrive in the morning and start polishing and setting up all the glassware for your meal, before they open the bottom snug bar and welcome your first guests. They also make sure everything is prepped and ready for your welcome drinks after your ceremony and all the wine is refreshed on tables throughout your meal. The team are also on hand to turn the barn around after your meal ready for your band or DJ to set up and then their focus is running the main bar, keeping it well stocked and making sure the barn is clean and tidy with no dirty glasses laying around, so there are no smashed glasses when everyone is up dancing the night away!

 

Matt & Lara 

Wedding Team

We’re the owners here and not only live on site, but are here to oversee everything too. You will usually find Matt overseeing everything to do with the Farm and Wedding Venue day to day and I will usually be the person you speak to when you first enquire, as I co-ordinate and run all the weddings and support our couples with venue visits and answering any questions in the lead up. I get to know our couples and their families really well and see it as such a huge privilege to be with so many lovely families for the biggest day of their lives! We’re here when you arrive  the day before to welcome you and check you in and here on hand throughout the day for any questions you may have and to offer our advice and experience. On your wedding day, while I co-ordinate your day, making sure your suppliers are set up where they should be and everything is running on time, Matt oversees everything behind the scenes, making sure the catering equipment is all up and running and the bar is all set up and ready to go! We are the last people to leave at night, when your band have packed up and the last of your guests make their way home, making sure everyone is safely where they need to be. You will usually see us and Freddie our Sprocker, the next morning tidying the bar and waving you off as you check out too! We have 3 children between us and try and split our time between the farm and family life, which isn’t always easy during busy wedding seasons. You may well find my 7 year old daughter moving chairs around or sorting out the lemons from the limes the day before a wedding trying to help us out!

In September last year, Erica and Elliot tied the knot in the Mill Barn and danced their way down the aisle as their guests cheered them on!

There are moments at every wedding where you feel so privileged to be a part of someone’s special day. One of those moments is witnessing the pride and love that the Bride’s family feel when they see her for the first time.

Another one of those moments is as I walk the Bride to the ceremony. It’s usually a very emotional time and one where the Bride can become a bit overwhelmed by what’s about to happen, but we normally find ourselves talking absolute rubbish and laughing and joking about something totally irrelevant and, by the time we get to the ceremony, all the anxiety has gone and excitement has taken over.

As Erica and her Father made their way down the aisle, Elliot waited excitedly for his beautiful Bride. They made their ceremony so personal with songs that have special meanings for their signing of the register and personal vows to one another.

Canapés and drinks started to flow as live music filled the Courtyard, while guests enjoyed chatting and getting competitive with the garden games!

As guests were happily mingling, Elliot and Erica captured photos with their families and Bridal party, before taking some time for themselves as guests took their seats in the Reception Barn.

As their band set up and the Pizza Oven got into place, Erica and Elliot went off in the tractor to catch the sunset, while their friends enjoyed the handmade Photo Booth and garden games on the lawn.

On a gorgeous sunny day in July, Sophie and Conal made their vows to one another under a cascade of flowers in the Walled Garden surrounded by all their loved ones.

It was a bit of a different wedding for us, as Irish tradition states that weddings are a 2 day event full of celebration and games! It certainly was that! Sophie and Conal’s family were so much fun and so friendly and welcoming, that I may have ended up dancing with Sophie’s dad learning how to Irish dance!

On the morning of their wedding day, Conal took a refreshing dip in the sea, with a few of his friends, before heading off to get dressed and ready for the big day!

Sophie got ready the morning of her wedding day in the Bridal Suite of the Manor House, with all the people that mean the most to her, before her very proud father got a first peek of the Bride!

Conal and his ushers met their guests in the Courtyard and Snug Bar, before heading into the Walled Garden to take their places for the ceremony.

Sophie left the Manor house with her Bridesmaids and Dad by her side, ready to walk down  the aisle with the sounds of their string quartet to her eagerly awaiting Groom!

The pair were beaming throughout their whole ceremony with sentimental readings from family and friends and personal vows, before they officially tied the knot to to all their cheering guests!

Out in the courtyard, the newlyweds were congratulated by all their friends and family as canapés & drinks flowed.

As guests chatted and enjoyed the sting quartet playing, Sophie & Conal enjoyed family photos in the garden, before going off for a bit of time alone.

The Reception Barn had been styled the day before beautifully, with greenery, fairy lights and a subtle hint of glamour with gold cutlery.

Everyone was up on their feet to welcome the new Mr & Mrs, before everyone enjoyed the wedding breakfast and the speeches commenced! There was even a quiz, where the winning table won a round of cocktails!

After their meal, as their band set up Sophie and Conal took a ride on the tractor to see the stunning views across the farm, as guests mingled in the Summer evening sunshine!

As the happy couple made their way back to the Reception Barn, their eagerly awaiting guests were gathered for their cutting of the cake and first dance!

After the bands first set, Sophie and Conal went for a little walk to watch the sunset and walk amongst the barley!

As Sophie and Conal made their way back to the party, Conal’s Father was waiting to get everyone up on their feet and learn a bit of Irish dancing! It was fantastic to watch and I soon found myself up dancing with Sophie’s dad who had insisted I take his hand for a dance and enjoy a drink as a thank you for all our hard work throughout the day! Sophie & Conal’s family were all so lovely and welcoming to every member of the team and really created a fun and friendly feel to the day. It was an absolute joy to be up dancing with everyone and although I had no idea what I was doing (as did a lot of other people) it was such a great experience!

Sophie & Conal, It was an absolute pleasure getting to know you both and seeing so much fun and love shine throughout your day! We wish you nothing but happiness and our best wishes as you start your next adventure in Australia!
