What sort of style do you want?
You may not know it, but there are lots of different styles of photography and it’s common for wedding photographers to use a mix of a few. They could primarily use a documentary approach which involves candid and spontaneous photographs, but then also incorporate some artistic and staged shots of just the bride and groom. It’s important you ask potential photographers what their strengths are and what styles they would use on the day. If you’re looking for your album to be very natural, featuring photographs you never even realised were being taken, don’t go for someone whose specialty is staged group shots!
What is included in your package, exactly?
You need to determine exactly what you’re paying for. The majority of photographers will offer a range of packages for you to choose from; if you’d like an album to be supplied featuring prints of the best photos, you need to ensure this is included within your chosen package to avoid incurring extra fees at a later date.
Most photographers will be completely helpful and genuine, eager to supply you with the best package to fulfil your desires, so just make sure you understand what’s included and what isn’t so you can keep an eye on your final costs.
Do you know our venue already?
Make sure you ask if they are familiar with the venue you’ve booked. The best case scenario is that they will know it, meaning they already have a good idea of the layout, lighting, and perhaps beautiful spots inside and out to make the most of. You’ll also be able to look at examples of weddings they’ve shot there before.
In the event your photographer hasn’t been to the venue, it’s best practice for them to visit before the big day in order to get a feel for it and to be able to come up with ideas. This might not always be possible, so if not, they could arrive a few hours early on the day – we’re always happy to help our couples’ photographers with the experience we have at Launcells Barton.
How long after the wedding do we get to see the photos?
Whilst an iPhone image is stored on our phones instantaneously, it’s going to take your photographer a little longer to get you your wedding shots, so be patient and make sure you ask about the time scales for the photos to be ready. If they’re a popular choice for couples it may be that you’ll need to wait a little longer to get them through, but remember these will be with you for a long time so you’ll want to make sure you have the right photographer for your needs, rather than the one who’ll have them on your desk by Monday morning.
