In September last year, Erica and Elliot tied the knot in the Mill Barn and danced their way down the aisle as their guests cheered them on!

Erica got ready in the house with all her friends and family around her and looked absolutely beautiful in a long sleeved lace gown.

As Erica added the finishing touches, Elliot arrived with his ushers to greet all their guests in to the Snug Bar.

The Mill Barn had been decorated by Erica and her family the day before, with beautiful cascading drapes and greenery.

There are moments at every wedding where you feel so privileged to be a part of someone’s special day. One of those moments is witnessing the pride and love that the Bride’s family feel when they see her for the first time.

Another one of those moments is as I walk the Bride to the ceremony. It’s usually a very emotional time and one where the Bride can become a bit overwhelmed by what’s about to happen, but we normally find ourselves talking absolute rubbish and laughing and joking about something totally irrelevant and, by the time we get to the ceremony, all the anxiety has gone and excitement has taken over.

As Erica and her Father made their way down the aisle, Elliot waited excitedly for his beautiful Bride. They made their ceremony so personal with songs that have special meanings for their signing of the register and personal vows to one another.

As the Launcells Barton team lined all the guests up along the lane, their ushers made sure all their guests had confetti at the ready!

Canapés and drinks started to flow as live music filled the Courtyard, while guests enjoyed chatting and getting competitive with the garden games!

As guests were happily mingling, Elliot and Erica captured photos with their families and Bridal party, before taking some time for themselves as guests took their seats in the Reception Barn.

Erica and her family styled the Reception Barn beautifully the day before with drapes and hanging greenery, with small gold touches.

As their band set up and the Pizza Oven got into place, Erica and Elliot went off in the tractor to catch the sunset, while their friends enjoyed the handmade Photo Booth and garden games on the lawn.

A few words from the Happy Couple-

“Launcells Barton was the most perfect venue for us, we fell in love with the place and its character from the moment we saw it. We couldn’t believe our luck to have found a venue with such charm and with the perfect setup for the day.
The moment we met Lara and Matt we knew our wedding was in safe hands, they were so lovely and passionate about their work you knew they could create and solve anything. Our day could not have been more perfect even if we tried, Lara and the team put everyone at ease and allowed us to relax and enjoy every moment knowing Lara was working tirelessly to ensure everything went to plan. We felt so privilege to have shared this wonderful day and venue with our family and friends and we felt right at home.
There is not a thing we would change about our day, it was simply the best. It is the little details that made us feel so special, like the tractor ride to the fields for the sunset and the bottle of bubbly for when everyone had gone and it was just us two!
We are so grateful for everything you did leading up to to the wedding and on the day. It was the best day of our lives and Launcells Barton was magical – a day and a place we will treasure for a lifetime. Thank you so much!”

Congratulations to Erica and Elliot as you start your new lives together as Mr & Mrs.
We’re sure there’s lots of excitement and adventure to come in the coming years!

We’ve carefully designed Launcells Barton to be great no matter what the weather and we’re proud to be a wedding venue for all seasons. If the sun is shining, you can enjoy welcome drinks in our stunning courtyard and even get married in the walled garden. If the heavens open and the rain arrives you can enjoy drinks in our rustic bar and 19th century barn. There’ll definitely never be any moments where you’re hunched under an umbrella waiting for blue sky!

So when you can get married at any time of the year, which season do you go for? Here’s our quick guide to help you decide on when your date will be…

Spring

Spring is undoubtedly one of the prettiest times of the year. With flowers blossoming and trees around the grounds budding this really is a great time to be getting married. With warmer days hopefully with us by April and May, you can enjoy drinks in the courtyard before marrying in our beautiful 19th century Mill Barn which can seat up to 160 guests.

Don’t worry if there’s some inclement weather around though, as we can quickly change plans and serve your guests with their drinks in the dry and warm confines of our barn.

It’s then just a few metres to our purpose built reception barn, complete with its own bar and our staff ready to pour you a drink!

Summer

If you’ve always dreamt of being married outside, then take advantage of our walled garden and the summer sunshine to make it a reality. With everything in bloom and the surrounding countryside bathed in greens, the photo opportunities are absolutely stunning. There are also plenty of areas for your guests to spend their time outside enjoying it all – from the courtyard to the garden, they’ll leave feeling like they’ve had a perfect day – just as you will too!

Autumn

For some, Autumn is their favourite time of the year. There’s a crispness in the air, the countryside is covered in shades of red, oranges and autumnal tones. Now is the perfect time to have that rustic wedding you always longed for. As with our spring weddings, we’re able to quickly adapt no matter what the weather brings and this is why we’re often popular at this time of year.

Winter

A crisp winter’s day is something special; you could even say it injects a little bit of magic into a wedding day. We can’t promise you snow but we can offer you heated barns to ensure your guests are kept warm and happy, mulled wine and the perfect package to make your winter wedding a reality.

If you have any questions about planning your wedding at our exclusive use wedding venue, no matter what time of the year, feel free to give us a call on 01288 352352 and we’ll be happy to answer any questions you have.

Back in July saw Justin and Karen saying their vows to one another under a beautiful sweeping arch of greenery.

It also saw the end of the heat wave that gave us such a wonderful summer and, although it gave the farm some much needed rain, it did mean we needed to bring the celebrations inside. However, Karen and Justin’s excitement and totally calm and relaxed attitude towards their day, meant that no matter what the weather was, nothing could dampen their spirits! It was a day filled with love, laughter and happiness!

The day before their wedding their florist, Lisa from Cabbage White Flowers, who had come all the way down from Surrey as florist, friend and guest, set to work decorating the Mill Barn and Reception Barn.  While Lisa worked her magic Justin and his friends were up the ladder putting up all the beautiful fairy lights! The venue looked stunning with circular arrangements of greenery hanging from the beams in the Reception Barn and the aisle in the Mill Barn lined with milk churns filled with arrangements of beautiful flowers!

Karen got ready in the Manor House at Launcells Barton, while Justin got ready at his family’s home near by. Although Karen didn’t need much help, Hannah Woodgates Hair Design & Lizzy Couch Make Up helped to make Karen glow on her big day!

As Justin and his best man greeted all the guests arriving in the Snug Bar, Scottish pipers played to welcome everyone, before guests took their seats in the Mill Barn for the ceremony to begin!

It was then time for Karen, accompanied by the pipers, to make her way to the Mill Barn and walk down the aisle to say “I do”. Karen looked beautiful in a floaty lace bodiced gown from Grace loves Lace.

With personal readings and a relaxed laid back feel, their ceremony was everything they wanted it to be!

After the ceremony the heavens opened, so guests were welcomed with a drink in the Snug Barn, while we quickly turned the Mill Barn around. Guests were then welcomed back into the Mill Barn by the Blue Lion Band playing as Prosecco  & canapés flowed.

Karen and Justin popped off to explore the grounds and enjoyed a bit of time together while all their guests took their seats in the Reception Barn.

We then announced the newlyweds to all their eagerly awaiting friends and family, before Dartmoor Kitchen got underway with serving a delicious wedding breakfast! Do you know why it’s called a wedding breakfast? Well, it’s referred to as a ‘breakfast’ because it is the first meal in the newly married couple’s lives together and the first meal you eat as a married couple!

Karen and Justin’s wedding breakfast was full of fantastic speeches including the funniest Bride’s speech I have ever heard!

As the meal came to a close and guests milled around outside the Reception Barn enjoying the sun as it finally popped it’s head out, Karen and Justin went for a stroll and their band set up ready for the evening to begin!

Guests were then welcomed inside for the happy couple to cut their cake, a naked cake with flowers flowing down it designed by the incredible Hannah from Hannah’s Cornish Cakes. The Blue Lion Band then kicked the evening off with the couples first dance which the couple then asked everyone to join them for!

A few words from the gorgeous bride herself!-  It is difficult to put into words just how much we feel you contributed to us making our weekend so special.  Always on hand to answer our many questions, accommodating to our parents and suppliers, ready to give considered advice (that was always spot on!), your calm, professional, experienced and flexible approach meant that we had the day of our dreams.
For me personally, I have to say that I surprised myself with how anxious I got in the lead up to the day.  Even on the Saturday morning I woke up worried that things would not be done or thought about.  I think that must be a normal feeling for a bride, especially someone who likes to be in control of everything! What I learnt from all of this was that the worry was a complete waste of time – not only did you have everything in hand but you thought of and dealt with things that I did not even think of.  From early on the Saturday morning I really felt like a Bride.  And you being there was the biggest part of me feeling this way: the way you dealt with the bagpipes, to the way you facilitated the registrar visit, to the way you said ‘don’t worry I will sort out your dress’ as I was about to walk down the aisle amongst many other things you did, allowed me to feel like the most perfect bride and for us to have truly the best day ever.  And I am pretty certain that people who chose to get married elsewhere do not get this treatment.
From the moment we visited it, we knew it was the perfect place and didn’t even consider anyone else.  We loved the feel, the accommodating nature and the feeling that you would all do anything you could to accommodate us.
I am getting quite emotional as I write this! Thank you just doesn’t seem to cover it but we are so grateful and thankful we found you and Launcells Barton – there is nothing we would change about the experience. It was a pleasure meeting you both and, without sounding patronising, I have found your determination and approach to building up this venue very inspirational.

These gorgeous photos are thanks to one of our recommended suppliers Andrew, from Travis and Brown. He has photographed a few weddings here since we opened in 2016 and every wedding he has really captured the couple and the individuality of their day. It’s great watching Andrew shoot a wedding, as he allows those nature moments to happen, but always there to offer reassuring words when needed.

It was an absolute joy being involved with your wedding Karen and Justin. It was wonderful to see two people so in love and meant for one another, as well as accepting of each others foibles – if Karen’s speech is anything to go by that is! Myself, Matt and Sophia wish you nothing but every happiness for the future as you start your married life together.

Last November we worked with Cathy from Boelle Events on a vision she had, to bring in rich and earthy tones to a bohemian theme! She wanted to go back to her Cornish roots and make the most of what this beautiful part of the country has to offer!

CATHY FROM BOELLE EVENTS TELLS US MORE ABOUT THE SHOOT

For this look, I wanted to go back to my Cornish roots and explore an organic, earthy and wintery theme. When I came across Launcells Barton in Bude, I was instantly drawn to it’s raw and rustic features and knew I had to style there! The barns, beams and exposed brickwork were perfect for my rich and bohemian vision. Not forgetting the beautiful house and gardens!

For the styling, I wanted to work with a deep pallet of burgundy’s, navys and golds lifted by a hint of blush and oodles of greenery. I believe in working with the seasons, from colours and accessories to seasonal fresh flowers. The colour pallet came from inspiration of autumnal colours mixed with wintery and seasonal golds to add a hint of festivities. Because each of my styles is unique, I hand dye all my fabrics so I can achieve seasonal colours. For the ‘Cornish Winter’ runner I dyed organic, unbleached cheesecloth with beetroot and red cabbage inspired chemical free dye to create the rich burgundy colour. The perfect base for golds and greens to sit elegantly on a rustic and upcycled oak trestle table. To add a bohemian flair, I incorporated macrame and a wicker peacock chair.
