Five common regrets couples have about their big day

The bride having her hair done at a wedding venue in Cornwall

Your wedding day will be one of the biggest, most memorable of your life, so it goes without saying, you want it to pass as perfectly as possible. When you look back on your day you’ll do so with much fondness, but despite the months and months of meticulous planning, will there be anything that makes you think, ‘with hindsight I’d do that a little differently!’

As an exclusive venue, we’ve worked with many couples to make the things they’ve been planning for months a reality, so let’s take a look at some of the most commonly reported wedding day regrets from couples across the country, and make sure you avoid them and become as happy the bride and grooms that share their most special day with us…

1. “I regret not having a videographer.”

I picture paints a thousand words, so it’s not surprising that videographers are becoming increasingly popular at weddings up and down the country. Whilst a great photographer will capture moments from the day that will live with you forever, a video of those enjoying and sharing it with you can add another dimension to your memories.

At Launcells Barton we’ve worked with a number of photographers and videographers; we’re always happy to talk through ideas and guide them to the most magic of places from which to get their shots so you get the best possible end results.

2. “I regret not planning for all weathers.”

No matter what time of year you tie the knot, there’s nothing as fickle as the great British weather, which can quickly melt the best laid of plans if you’re not prepared. Make sure if you’re having a country wedding that you have alternative footwear to avoid any muddy mishaps and think of creative ways you could potentially combat the inclement weather – coloured umbrellas can be a real eye catcher for wedding photos!

As a venue we’ve seen our fair share of sun, but naturally there have been some weddings which have been slightly wetter; we’ll always keep an eye on the forecast and work with our couples to prepare them for every eventuality.

3. “I regret not hiring the whole venue.”

As an exclusive venue we’re not surprised to hear that this is one of the most commonly cited regrets for brides. When you book a venue you want to know it’s yours for your big day, that you won’t be sharing it with strangers, they won’t form the backdrop to your photos and you’ll not need to compromise on space and timings.

When you hire an exclusive venue such as ours, we make every effort for the day to be all about you, your family and your loved-ones; exactly as it should be!

4. “I regret going on honeymoon the day after.”

Don’t underestimate how tired you may feel the day after your wedding – especially if it doesn’t end until the early hours! The idea of being whisked off on honeymoon the next day may seem romantic but it could also end up being a little overwhelming and exhausting. Some brides wish they had taken a day or two to recoup, and if you’re wanting to then what better place than the open countryside and sandy beaches of Cornwall!

5. “I regret not having my makeup done professionally.”

As a bride this may be a day you’ve been thinking about for much of your life, so it’s only right that you have the perfect hair, the perfect dress and the perfect makeup to accompany you down the aisle. Whilst having a makeup artist would be a tad decedent in everyday life, this isn’t your average day, so don’t be one of those brides who wish they had their hair and makeup professionally done on the day but decided against it.

At Launcells we’ll have all of the facilities to make you look truly beautiful on your big day.

If you’re currently looking for a wedding venue in Cornwall, please do give us a call on 01288 352 352 – we’d be happy to discuss how we can make sure your day is the one you’ve always wanted.

Tips for planning a successful child-friendly wedding

Exclusive Use Wedding Venue
A key part of any wedding will be for you to spend and share it with the people you love and those closest to you. For many it’s also about family, and those family members can sometimes be of all ages – whether it’s elderly grandparents or that adorable pageboy that steals the show.

We’ve had plenty of experience in welcoming wedding parties of all sizes, and ages, to Launcells Barton, so here are our tips on how to have a brilliant day where the kids can play and enjoy it with you.

Involve them in the ceremony

People love to be involved and children are no different, so if you tell them they have a very important task, whether it’s to be a flower girl or a ring bearer during the ceremony, it’s likely they will not only treasure the responsibility, but also be on their best behavior when all eyes are on them!

They’ll also make for some very cute photos you can cherish and pull out at family get-togethers for many years to come, much to their dismay!

Check if you can have a child’s menu

It’s a good idea to ask your caterers if they’re able to offer any child specific options. Younger family members will understandably have different tastes, so if you are opting for a sit down meal try to provide the parents with a couple of options to choose from. If you’re having a buffet, make sure there are a good mix of dishes, with some suitable for children which aren’t too rich or spicy.

Also consider those times outside of the set meal and canapes – are you going to provide kids with snacks to ensure they don’t get too low on energy, whilst of course not plying them with too much sugar? Some caterers will provide little lunch packs for the kids to have during the welcome drinks so they don’t get too hungry, meaning the adult can eat without worrying about them during the meal.

Be mindful when drawing up your seating plan

Seating plans take careful consideration and can be tricky to get right, so if you’re bringing the kids you’re likely to have a few extra things to think about. Depending on their age, you could let them have their own table; this can reduce boredom and increase the fun they have – you just need to make sure they’re of an age to be trusted with this responsibility. If the children are younger and need to be with their parents make sure you check with the venue that they will be able to provide highchairs and it won’t feel cramped.

Make it fun!

Keeping the kids entertained throughout the day can sometimes be a tricky task, especially when toddlers can easily start to get hungry, bored or sleepy. In the past we have had people set up little tipis with cushions and colouring books for the children, making it into their own little den!

If you’re holding your wedding during the warmer months, lawn games have become very popular and are fun for young and old, as well as being quick and easy to set up. There are also a huge range of wedding games and entertainment you could explore; we can point you in the direction of some of the best we’ve worked with previously. Before now we have had couples hire bouncy castles and even crazy golf –which always goes down well!

Make your DJ aware

It’s sensible to let your DJ know there will be children bopping about during the evening. He may remove some songs from his playlist which wouldn’t be suitable and will hopefully add in a few crowd pleasers which children will love getting up and dancing to!

Work together with your venue

Lastly, but perhaps most importantly, work together with your venue. Their aim is to make your day special and stress-free, and if you let them know there’ll be children attending in advance, it could be that they have a few tricks and ideas up their sleeve to make it as enjoyable for everyone, no matter what their age.

Wonderfully unique, relaxed Wedding in Cornwall

Where do I start with Ben and Nicol’s wedding! It was fun filled and relaxed from start to finish and all of us at Launcells found it an absolute joy to be a part of!

Barn Wedding Ceremony

Ben & Nicol got engaged while on holiday in Bude last year and knew that they wanted to have their wedding at the place that held a special place in both their hearts! It wasn’t always plain sailing for the couple though, as Ben had to be quite persistent with his wooing of Nicol, until she finally agreed to “give it a try” and when Nicol got wind that Ben was going to propose a couple of weeks before the real thing, she said “oh no you’re not going to ask me to marry you are you?!” Luckily she said yes, when he officially popped the question!

Barn Wedding Cornwall

The couple arrived the day before to set up for their ceremony and wedding breakfast, but then snuck off with a few close friends and family to have their legal ceremony in the garden. Ben and Nicol wanted their close friend to conduct the ceremony that all their guests would come to, as they wanted it to be really relaxed and personal. Upon hearing their plans when first meeting them a year before, I have to say I was a bit intrigued as to how this was going to work!

The next morning, although the mizzle of rain had set in, the joy and excitement felt from everyone, certainly was shining through! Nicol couldn’t have been more laid back as she got ready with her friends and family around her. Nicol had given her bridesmaids one simple instruction, find something in a grey tone that you like and feel comfortable in! They looked beautiful in all different dresses and complimented the laid back feel perfectly!

Bleujen popped in on the morning of the wedding with the bouquets and to put the finsihing touches to the tables, while Hannah Woodgates Hair Design gave Nicol her effortless look!

Although the rain decided to drizzle at the exact moment Nicol stepped outside the house, it really didn’t matter at all! Scooping up her delicate dress and revealing her stunning blue shoes, everyone made their way to the Mill Barn

I shouldn’t have been concerned at all over their friend conducting their ceremony! Being part of the Magic Circle, Joe was in his element in front of a crowd and was hilariously funny, yet sentimental! I can honestly say I haven’t cried in a ceremony so much! Not only from the laughing, but also through seeing just how much love they have for one another! After giving Ben a sandwich mid ceremony -Nicol was aware he hadn’t eaten for at least half an hour!-  Nicol made her vows to Ben and when all the guests from Wales stood up on her queue to sing a Welsh tribute to the Groom, I have to admit I welled up! Nicol had expressly said no Welsh Choral songs, but wanted to show she loved him enough to give in!

The traditional hymns were replaced with everyone singing “My girl” by the temptations! Traditional or not, no ceremony is complete without a kiss!

A few words from the happy couple-   “We got engaged near Bude and had this romantic idea about having our wedding nearby, forcing our friends and family to trek from afar down to the Cornish coast. After looking at six or seven venues, none quite hitting the mark – all too ‘weddingy’ – we stumbled upon Launcell’s for our last appointment before giving up and resigning to a venue closer to home. We didn’t make it out the car before we made our minds up; it was perfect. Rustic but not too rustic, wedding appropriate but not just another ‘wedding barn’, secluded without being too remote. Then we met Lara and Matt and the deal was done. So helpful without being pushy, relaxed while meticulously organised. Our wedding day was such fun. We didn’t want anything too traditional or formal. We wanted something personal and unique to us; Launcell’s Barton was the perfect venue to do just that.”

We wish you every happiness in the world Ben & Nicol! It was such a pleasure getting to know you both and we loved witnessing the 2 of you become husband and wife in your wonderfully unique way! It was such a fun day and you could feel how much you meant to everyone there! Congratulations again!

Important questions to ask your Wedding Photographer before you book

A picture captures a thousand words, so when it comes to your wedding day you’ll want to make sure the photos taken capture those moments that will live with you for a lifetime. This makes the selection of your photographer a pretty big one, so if you’re currently considering a long list of potential photography candidates, here are just a few questions you might want to ask them…

What sort of style do you want?

You may not know it, but there are lots of different styles of photography and it’s common for wedding photographers to use a mix of a few. They could primarily use a documentary approach which involves candid and spontaneous photographs, but then also incorporate some artistic and staged shots of just the bride and groom. It’s important you ask potential photographers what their strengths are and what styles they would use on the day. If you’re looking for your album to be very natural, featuring photographs you never even realised were being taken, don’t go for someone whose specialty is staged group shots!

What is included in your package, exactly?

You need to determine exactly what you’re paying for. The majority of photographers will offer a range of packages for you to choose from; if you’d like an album to be supplied featuring prints of the best photos, you need to ensure this is included within your chosen package to avoid incurring extra fees at a later date.

Most photographers will be completely helpful and genuine, eager to supply you with the best package to fulfil your desires, so just make sure you understand what’s included and what isn’t so you can keep an eye on your final costs.

Do you know our venue already?

Make sure you ask if they are familiar with the venue you’ve booked. The best case scenario is that they will know it, meaning they already have a good idea of the layout, lighting, and perhaps beautiful spots inside and out to make the most of. You’ll also be able to look at examples of weddings they’ve shot there before.
In the event your photographer hasn’t been to the venue, it’s best practice for them to visit before the big day in order to get a feel for it and to be able to come up with ideas. This might not always be possible, so if not, they could arrive a few hours early on the day – we’re always happy to help our couples’ photographers with the experience we have at Launcells Barton.

How long after the wedding do we get to see the photos?

Whilst an iPhone image is stored on our phones instantaneously, it’s going to take your photographer a little longer to get you your wedding shots, so be patient and make sure you ask about the time scales for the photos to be ready. If they’re a popular choice for couples it may be that you’ll need to wait a little longer to get them through, but remember these will be with you for a long time so you’ll want to make sure you have the right photographer for your needs, rather than the one who’ll have them on your desk by Monday morning.

At Launcells Barton we’re pleased to be able to recommend some amazing suppliers who we trust to provide a fantastic service:

Our advice on how to plan an unforgettable Cornish Mini-moon

If you’ve set your heart on a wedding day in Cornwall we can definitely understand why; peaceful, romantic, picturesque – there are a million reasons to have your special day in the Duchy, but could it be that you fall in love with our little part of the world so much that you’d like to see and experience more as part of your Mini-moon?

If you’re considering spending time exploring everything Cornwall has to offer after your ceremony, here are just a few things you could get up to as a newly married couple!

Watch a play at an open air theatre

How many opportunities will you have to watch an open air theatre whilst perched atop a cliff high above the Atlantic Ocean, with panoramic views of the stunning Porthcurnow Bay? Chances like this don’t come often, so if you’re in Cornwall with your partner, the historic Minack Theatre should definitely be on the to-do list.

Pack a bottle of champagne, a blanket and enjoy the performance together.

Secluded sunsets

Whilst we’re fortunate to have amazing beaches near our wedding venue, you’re spoilt for choice when it comes to Cornwall. Widemouth Bay is less than 10 minutes from our door and a great beach to sit, walk your dogs or enjoy the the coast path.

If you’re headed further afield then consider Porthkidney Sands, a blissful and secluded beach nestled between Hayle and St Ives in West Cornwall. You should find that you only come across a couple of locals, if that, making it the perfect spot to get away from it all.

Treat yourselves to total relaxation

Wanting to relax, unwind and really get away from it all after those months of wedding planning? If you’re both in need of some pampering and wanting to head to a spa during your time in Cornwall then there are plenty of fantastic choices – from swimming pools with sea views, to hot tubs on coastal cliffs, you’ll be able to relax in inspirational style.

Enjoy an intimate meal by the ocean

An absolute must whilst Mini-mooning in this part of the world is making the most of being by the breathtaking coastline. Why not couple incredible views with enjoying some of Cornwall’s finest cuisine by booking yourselves into a restaurant by the sea? Be sure to mention when you book that you are just married, to guarantee a more private table where you can enjoy each other’s company.

A couples cycle ride

The Camel Trail is a beautifully wooded cycle route which starts at the pretty fishing town of Padstow, famous for Rick Stein’s fish and chips. A popular path leads you to the famous Camel Valley Vineyard. Sitting on their terrace sipping Camel Valley bubbly on a summer’s afternoon is said to be magical.

Visit an art gallery

Cornwall is awash with fantastic art galleries, boasting something to satisfy all tastes. If you are close to St Ives you’ll be spoilt for choice with The Tate, Porthminster Gallery and New Craftsman. There’s no dress code, so don’t be afraid to get dressed up for the occasion! Try to pick somewhere you’ve both never been before – it’s much more fun when the experience is new to both of you.

Getting the perfect guest list for your big day

If you’re currently planning your wedding day then deciding on who you’re gong to invite can be a tricky, and sometimes political task. You want to avoid upsetting anyone, yet it’s your big day so you’ll want to make sure you can share it with those people that mean a lot to you, whether it’s your friends, family or other loved-ones.

Here are a few helpful tips to ensure you get everyone you love to be there on your big day…

Decisions on Family

Whilst you’ll of course want to share your special day with immediate family, the question of where to draw the line can sometimes be a difficult one to answer. Do you extend it past your aunties or cousins to those family members you’ve not seen in several years, or do you keep it to those closest to you?

The best rule here is to be consistent so as to avoid any offence; if you’re going all out then include them all, and if you’re wanting a smaller and more intimate day, perhaps draw the line a little closer to home, but always have the same rules for everyone and bear in mind the idiosyncrasies that each of our families have!

Who’s partner will be coming?

The question of including partners has been thrust into the spotlight in recent times with Pippa Middleton coining the phrase ‘no ring, no bring’ at her recent wedding. So where are you going to stand on partners at your wedding?

Whilst it’s going to be a no-brainer your family are going to bring their wives and girlfriends, it can become somewhat of a grey area when it comes to your friend and their brand-new boyfriend you’re yet to meet or speak to. Be sure to be clear and consistent on your approach, as well as on your invite, to avoid any confusion or upset.

Could geography be a hurdle?

Whether you decide to hold your wedding at your local church, or on the other side of the world, there is going to be some element of travel required for your guests. Before now, we have had a bride and groom fly all the way from Australia to hold their special day here at Launcells. They were slightly nervous in choosing native England as their wedding destination, in case certain friends or family wouldn’t make the trip.

In reality, those who really count will of course make the effort for you both. Whether you’re celebrating close to home or not, send out those save the dates and if a friend declines due to distance then they have freed up an invite which could go to someone who wouldn’t miss it for the world!

Are they a co-worker or a friend?

Many of us will have had this dilemma with our own wedding; you spend a lot of time with them, but do you invite your co-workers to your big day? It can sometimes feel as if it will be awkward if we don’t, or as if there’s an obligation to send an invite, when in reality that pressure often isn’t actually there.

If they’re not close to you in the office, the likelihood is that they’re not expecting an automatic invite and are also hopefully unlikely to take offence. Invite those that mean the most to you, and those with whom you share life outside of the office walls, or if you feel they’re just co-workers, then keep consistent and tell them all about it on your return from work!

Can you imagine your big day without them?

The final point is probably the most important one of them all; can you imagine your big day without them? Are they someone who you’ve shared some of your fondest memories with? Would it seem like someone is missing if you didn’t invite them? If the answer to those questions is yes, then you know that they need to be there on your special day.

If you’re currently looking for a unique and special wedding venue in Cornwall then please give us a call on 01288 352352 and we’d be happy to discuss how we can help.

Checklist for choosing the perfect live music for your big day

Wedding Music Cornwall
So you’ve decided your budget allows for live music at your wedding? Great news! It’s a fantastic way to create the type of atmosphere you desire and also make your day really memorable. Whether you’re looking for a string quarter or disco band, we at Launcells Barton have compiled a checklist to ensure it goes off without a hitch and ensure you get the perfect match!

1. The most important point is to be sure of your budget from the get go. You don’t want to find someone great and then come to realise that your budget doesn’t really allow. Ask yourselves, is it one of the most important aspects of your wedding or just a small addition? Also remember that quality music isn’t cheap. Hold off on the research until you know how much you are willing to spend!

2. You’ll need to sit down with your fiancé and discuss what type of music you would like. It’s helpful to think about both of your tastes and what type of atmosphere you’d like to create. Do you want it to be chilled and complimented by classical music or would you like something to get the party started and making everyone get up on their feet?

3. Its handy to have a rough run through of your day to see what times you would like live music to be played. Are you wanting to have music at the ceremony, during a reception or meal, or for an evening party? Maybe you’d like all of these, but do keep referring back to your budget!

4. Research is a very important part of the planning process. If there’s a band based at the opposite end of the country don’t be disheartened as they may be prepared to travel, but this will obviously be worked into the price. Obtain full quotes from your top choices with no hidden costs, and ask their availability to be certain they can make your date.

5. If you have managed to whittle it down and made your final choices, you now need to ask questions which are important to you. If there is a certain song you would like played, make sure that your band are happy to do this. You are paying for a service and therefore have the right to make certain requests, but make sure it’s nothing too outlandish! Also ensure that you obtain a full set list and check you are happy beforehand.

6. If at all possible, its beneficial to meet up with your band, rather than meeting them for the first time on the day. This of course might not be possible but if it is, do try to make the effort. It’s a good idea to put them in touch with your venue also, in case they have any technical or logistical questions.

7. Before the big day comes, do make sure you check with the band how long it will take them to set up and what this will involve, such as how much room they will need. It is common practice for set up to take place after the meal, when tables are being cleared and guests are at the bar getting drinks. Bear in mind some musicians could need an hour for this.

7 useful tips for writing your wedding vows

More and more people are deciding to write their own wedding vows in order to put into their own words how they feel about the one they love and to tell their friends and family how much that other person means to them. When it comes to the reality of actually writing them, things can get a little tricky; how do you put your emotions into words and your pen to paper? How do you encapsulate how you really feel?

For most of us this can be a daunting task, so if you’re currently writing your vows with a blank sheet of paper staring back at you, here are seven useful tips for making them all you want them to be from the team at our wedding venue in Cornwall.

Be authentic

The main and most important point is to be true to yourself – don’t try to be something you’re not. Your partner is marrying you, for you, and will want to feel that your words are genuine. It’s important to speak from your heart, they’re words you’ll remember forever.

Reflect on your relationship

Think about the reasons why you are marrying them and what has brought you to this moment. Look back on your favourite memories, your many ‘firsts’, and the moment you realised they were ‘the one’.

Buy a notepad

Writing isn’t something that comes naturally to many of us, so sitting down for a set period of time and forcing yourself to write vows under pressure (and potentially at the last minute) won’t make it enjoyable or what you want them to be, so try having a notepad on hand so that should an idea pop into your head, or some words, you’ll be able to write them down without any stress.

Google is your new best friend

The good news is that you’re not the first person to write your own vows and whilst you’ll not want to take someone else’s words, they can provide a great deal of inspiration. Head on a search to gain some ideas and always give Pinterest a visit; it’s an absolute goldmine when it comes to wedding ideas.

Practice makes perfect

Public speaking can fill some people with dread, so in order to avoid any fumbling or complete anxiety attacks, plenty of practice is vital. The more you practice the more natural and at ease you will be when the time comes to deliver your vows.

Share with someone who knows you both

It’s a good idea to do a run-through with a trusted friend who’ll be able to give you honest advice. It might be that they are able to add to your material, or tell you take something out if they feel you are perhaps oversharing with your audience!

Promises

Be honest with your partner. What can you promise them you’ll do throughout your marriage? Whether it’s to always buy their favourite coffee, to stand by them through thick and thin, or to stop singing along badly to the radio, make it something that means something to your both!

We wish you good luck with your vows and if you’d like to have a chat with us about having your big day at our wedding venue in Cornwall please do give us a call on 01288 352352.

A bit of rain couldn’t dampen this fun filled Wedding in Cornwall!

Back in June saw the wedding of Beth and Sean and although it was a drizzly day, it definitely didn’t stop the couple and all their guests smiling, having fun and partying into the night!Wedding Venues Cornwall

Beth and Sean first met at Liverpool University and hit it off straight away with their shared love of adventure and travelling. Beth is now a GP working just outside Plymouth while Sean works as an anaesthetist at Derriford Hospital. The couple still take every opportunity to get out and surf when ever they can! They have even converted a van into a camper van, so they can pack up their surfboards and drive off for a few days, whenever they get chance! This is no ordinary van though, but one where the bride has thought carefully about all the essentials they may need on their travels, like matching curtains, cushions and even a spice rack! They have made it into their little home away from home for trips away just the 2 of them, where they don’t have to worry about the stresses of their day jobs and I loved it!

Wedding Camper Van

On the morning of their wedding Beth and her friends and family got ready in the house, with hair and make up by Blush Bridal, while the groom and his ushers got ready at a near by hotel, before arriving to take care of the final details in the morning.

Beth looked beautiful in a lace ballgown with illusion neckline and it was an emotional moment to see just how much this meant to her Father when he saw her for the first time in her dress. When helping Beth with some set up bits the day before, Beth had explained about loosing her Mother when she was younger and how she was having photos of her and around the venue, so she could still be a part of her special day. It was so touching to hear, that I could do nothing more than give her a big hug as we both welled up.

The ceremony was held in the Mill Barn, which had been dressed beautifully with hanging greenery from beams and windows, with ivy and foliage that the couple and their family had scavenged from recent walks. There really was a lot of thought and time that had gone in to every detail of their day. With family members making yards and yards of bunting and personalised momentums adding special sentiment to the day.

With brollies at the ready, it was then time for guests to make their way to the Mill Barn ready for the Bride to make her entrance and the ceremony to begin!

While each table had been named after their favourite beach and delicately styled with simple jars of flowers. The ever thoughtful bride even surprised the guests who’s birthday’s it was on their wedding day, with balloons and gifts waiting at their place setting!

Their guests enjoyed BBQ sharing platters on each table provided by H&A Catering.

Beth and Sean had infused their personal touches throughout the whole day with giant Jenga blocks, where guests were encouraged to write advice on married life on the blocks, the signing tree where guests built up the tree with their finger prints and the surfboard which displayed the seating plan, which had been handmade by the groom!

The happy couple then took some time out just the two of them with their photographer while their band set up. Travers and Brown, one of our recommended photographers was back for his second wedding with us and we absolutely love working with him. Not only is his work stylish, yet natural, but he is such fun on the day and as cool as a cucumber, making sure he gets the perfect shot and catching those fantastic “of guard moments”

Andrew ( Travers & Brown) “One of the great things about Launcells Barton from a photographers point of view is the number of great locations available within and around the venue. From the house to the Mill barn and the top field to the tree lined lane, there’s plenty of opportunity for great shots. On this particular occasion the weather wasn’t ideal but I was still able to shoot the couple portraits in the house and the Mill barn”

Some partied a little too hard…..

Wedding Venues Cornwall and Devon

It was such a fun wedding , I think Matt and I may even have partaken in a shot or two with the wedding party at the bar too! ….. Well you can’t say no can you!

We wish Bethany and Sean every happiness for the future as they start married life together, we’re sure it will be adventure filled, travelling all over in their home away from home! We also want to thank them for trusting in our plans for the farm and not running a mile when seeing the muddy crater for the first time!

A few words from the happy coupleWe had looked at many wedding venues before we came across Launcells Barton. After the first viewing we both knew this venue would be perfect for us! Although the Events Barn was a muddy hole at the time of our booking we completely trusted their vision. Their hard work and obvious passion for the family farm was clear to see throughout the house and the Mill Barn.
The day itself was amazing! Lara and Matt worked hard behind the scenes, which made our day run smoothly. Even though we had the appearance of some typical Cornwall ‘Mizzle’ during the big day this did not dampen any spirits, as there was so much beautiful indoor space to accommodate all of our guests.
We would highly recommend this beautiful venue. Thank you for all your hard work we are still on cloud nine.”

Gin Fizz and friends for a beautiful English Country Wedding in Cornwall.

Back in May we had the pleasure of seeing our very first couple to ever book their wedding at Launcells become Man and Wife!

We met Pauline and Paul back in November 2015, and they saw the farm before any renovations had started.  I think there may have even been Matt’s parents furniture still here too! They were completely on board with all our plans for the place and could see past all the work that needed to be done! Pauline and Paul originally wanted to get married in September last year, but were so taken by the new barn that they pushed their wedding back so it would be ready for their big day!

It was fantastic to get to know Pauline and Paul and see all their wedding plans come together!

Pauline organises outdoor adventure activities for children, meaning summer is always a pretty hectic time for her.  They decided a Spring wedding would allow them plenty of time to focus on their day.

The couple went for a beautiful English Country Garden feel by filling the Reception barn with big jars full of beautiful flowers, while Crescent Moon decorated the beams with stunning lighting and hanging lanterns! Pauline and Paul really put a lot of personal touches into their decorations, even making their seating plan out of an old desk!

The Mill Barn was understated elegance with white bunting sweeping from the beams, fairy lights twinkling, flowers hanging on chairs down the aisle and big milk churns full of flowers and branches in the corners. The chairs even had personalised tags for reserved seating. Everything looked absolutely breathtaking!

Pauline got ready on the day in the Bridal Suite with her fabulous bridal party. The bridesmaids wore gorgeous blush patterned dresses and everywhere you looked, hair and make up was being perfected by Hannah Woodgates hair design and Lizzy Couch Make up.

Pauline, with the help of her mum doing up all of those tiny buttons, looked simply stunning in a strappy lace, fit and flare dress finished beautifully with a beaded belt.

Paul, his bestman and ushers, welcomed guests as they arrived to take their seats in the Mill Barn.

It was then time for Pauline to make her way to the Mill Barn, and for the couple to say their vows in front of all their friends and family. It was such a beautiful ceremony with personal, yet funny, readings from friends.

I have to say that Pauline and Paul’s wedding was so much fun to be a part of.  You could feel the love that all their friends and family had for them.  I even helped their bridesmaids and Bridesman surprise the newlyweds with a honeymoon suite filled with confetti, decorations and even their PJ’s laid out nicely on the bed!

Such amazing words from Pauline ( a tear may have been shed reading this!)

“We had viewed a couple of venues, when we met Lara and heard about her partner Matts beautiful old family run farm that they planned to turn into a gorgeous wedding venue… and we were intrigued!
Everywhere we had viewed up to this point just hadn’t connected with us… beautiful venues… just not how we imagined our day to be… just not “us”. And so we went to visit the farm, before any work had started! Armed with our wellies, the dog and warned that it really was still just an old house, and a barn and a cow shed full of what cows do best… we had a tour, spent ages just chatting with Lara and Matt, and left knowing that we wanted to have our wedding there.
They are a wonderful partnership. Warm, welcoming, friendly, helpful and so filled with vision and motivation that we trusted them one hundred percent to create what is now a gorgeous wedding venue.
Having the venue for the weekend, and having so much room to accommodate family and treat it as our home made the whole event magical. Nothing was too much trouble, and we were kept in the loop the whole time. Lara’s recommendations and advice helped with the planning immensely.
They have created a beautiful, rustic, natural setting packed full of old Cornish charm and we absolutely loved it. I am sad that we no longer have a reason to follow the progress of this fabulous place, we wish them all the best success for the future and cannot thank them enough for making our day so special.
My only complaint is that it went too fast… Can we do it again please?

Wedding Sunset Cornwall

These beautiful images were all captured by Nicola Muir Photography. Nicola is actually friends with the couple and has known them for years. She came all the way down from Hampshire to shoot their special day! Luckily Nicola’s parents don’t live too far away, so was even able to be picked up from work by her dad- a first time in many years!

Congratulations from everyone here at Launcells Barton! It’s been fantastic getting to know you both so well and we wish you all the happiness for the future.  Stay in touch!
