We are so pleased to be able to finally announce that our brand new reception barn will be opening it’s doors for the first time next April! Let us tell you a little more about our wedding venue in Cornwall.
The reception barn will be able to seat 200 guests comfortably and has a separate bar/ lounge, which can either be partitioned off or opened up. There will also be a kitchen for your caterers to use, reducing the need and cost to you for hiring in a catering tent and equipment.
We have worked really hard on the design of the New Events Barn and have designed it in such a way, that your guests can access the bar and reception lobby, without entering the main seating area, so that you keep the unveiling of your wedding breakfast a surprise, until everyone takes their seats! After all you have spent all that time making it look amazing, you don’t want people popping through to use the bathroom and seeing it!
We don’t want to lose the character of Launcells Barton in the new barn, which is why we are using where ever possible, re-claimed items from the farm. The partition for example, between the bar & the seating area will be reclaimed timber from the old barns & we even have an old maghonay organ which we are using as a drinks cabinet for the bar! The bar it’s self will even be made of all re-claimed wood too!
Although the main seating area will be very neutral, so that couples can decorate it however they wish, we will have a Launcells Barton feel in the bar/ Lounge. We will be including both the Georgian house & the barns into our new space, by combining English Country Gent with Rustic Farm, creating the perfect atmosphere to enjoy drinks and relax throughout your special day!

This week we have been cutting down lots of trees to get ready for our new biomass boiler that is being installed soon! It was all hands on deck- even little ones!
We are installing central heating into the house and barns soon, so need to make sure we have enough wood ready to go when its all up and ready! As many of you know the house at the moment has no central heating and is very cold without all the fires roaring. Although we will be putting a wood burner into the sitting room and keeping the open fire in the dinning room, we can’t expect our guests to start fires every morning and keep them going throughout the day – they will be far too busy enjoying their wedding! so we need to make sure the house is nice and toasty for our winter weddings.
We have acres of woodland on the farm, so have just acquired our felling license to coppice trees, so that we can self sustain our biomass boiler. We also have a thinning license to open up the area at the front of the house by the pond.
We also had to take down this big fella as it was pushing out our wall. We had to get the professionals in for this one though, as it was not for those with a phobia of heights! The tree surgeons were climbing and swinging on ropes like acrobats! It was amazing to watch and certainly involved a lot of skill!
Hopefully the next time you visit us here at Launcells Barton, you will see how much lighter the farm looks now that the trees have been tamed!
The Mill Barn is the first of the barns to have works started on it. If you had seen the Mill Barn before the builders started the much needed repairs, then you would have noticed that, yes, you can see the sky while standing in the barn! Although the barn is going to have a rustic feel about it, that is just a little bit too rustic. We don’t want to change the feel of the barn, because we love it, but we do want to make sure it’s water tight!
Our first weddings in August will have their wedding breakfast in the Mill Barn, as we are able to seat 120 guests on trestle tables. We are also opening up the cob barn, with a pop up bar and hay bales for seating!
One of our weddings in the summer will be taking their wedding out into the courtyard, as they have a mobile wood fired pizzeria serving their guests in the evening. What a fantastic idea!

Wow, well what a weekend that was for us here at Launcells Barton!
We have been rushed off our feet and have only just got a chance to sit down after such a busy Open Weekend. The weekend was by appointment only, so that we could give each bride and groom the time they needed and we were fully booked throughout the 2 days!
Cornwall has so many creative and talented people and we were lucky enough to have a few of them showcasing at the weekend!
We had our very own Launcells Barton cake made by the incredible Christine at Peboryon. One of the distinctive features within the grounds of Launcells Barton is a beautiful fragrant pink rose known as the Launcells Rose. Apparently Matthew’s Grandfather had the rose looked into many years ago and it seems it’s unique to Launcells Barton. Every year it blooms and brings beautiful colour to the garden. Christine thought this was pretty special -as do we- so took this and worked it in to our very own cake!
Jenny from Jenny Wren Wedding planning was
also exhibiting at our open weekend and was an absolute star helping me get things ready the day before! She was there in all weathers moving and shifting things and even rolled up her selves and got stuck into ironing the Bridal Suite curtains, so that they looked perfect!
We were also able to show case our artist’s impressions by the Artographer and give our bride and grooms the first peak before anyone else! Here’s what the Bridal Suite will look like once all the furniture is in and the floors are buffed up!
Ambience Venue Styling and Brompton Buds also dressed our Mill Barn and it looked absoloutley beautiful, even before all the works have been finished on the barn! It was great to show couples what they could do with the Mill barn if they wanted to!
A big thank you to all of our suppliers who were able to be there at the event! We have worked with them all previously in the past, so were happy to recommend them to prospective couples!
Hello and thank you for taking the time out to read our new blog!
We are in full swing with our renovations now as we get ready for our first open weekend at the end of January! When we say renovation works, we don’t just mean a lick of paint! The whole place is being brought back to its forma glory, with the added luxury of… ahhhhh central heating! And when you are trying to heat a house the size and age of Launcells Barton its no easy feat! Don’t worry though, we will still have open fires and wood burners for those crisp winter evenings!
As you can see from the below photo we didn’t have to dig very deep to uncover a few surprises when we started works! Mind you, if i was in my 80’s like Matt’s grandparents were when they decided to redecorate, i might have left the furniture where it was too!
We have also started the big task of the main entrance and staircase! Our poor decorator is having to scrape every inch of the walls as the hallway was left with paint peeling off all over the place, when a previous painter had not taken into account the specialist paint needed for the lime rendered walls.
We will keep you up to date with all the developments happening at Launcells Barton as we prepare to open for our first weddings next summer!
In the meantime we are focusing on our open event at the end of January. This is an opportunity for people to see the newly renovated house and see the plans for the Events Barn & Mill Barn as works start on those early next year! We also have wedding suppliers from the local area showcasing at the event, which gives you the perfect opportunity to meet an array of potential suppliers all in one place!
We are offering show around appointments for our open weekend in January which will be open 10am to 3pm both days and slots are filling up fast, so to secure your appointment please call us on 01288 352352 or email email@example.com.
That’s it from us at the moment, but don’t forget to like our Facebook page to keep up to date with all the goings on at Launcells Barton!
